In this two-hour workshop, Maggie will show you how to make a sun catcher to hang in your window using a simple printing technique, rubber bands, water colours and oil. Make it for yourself or gift it to someone that you think could use some extra sunshine in their life this winter. (Bring an art smock/old shirt for this workshop). Age: 6 to 10 years STRAW PEOPLE WITH JODIE GOLDRING Tuesday 10 July, 10am to 12pm OR 1 to 3pm Humans have been recreating images of themselves in straw, bulrushes and other natural fibres across many ancient cultures for thousands of years. As we start to look for alternatives to the throw-away, plastic world we have created, we can look back into history for inspiration. This ancient craft is fun, environmentally sustainable and only limited by your imagination. Age: 6 to 10 years FRENCH VELOCIPEDE WITH CARLA MAXWELL Wednesday 4 July, 10am to 12pm OR 1 to 3pm Wednesday 11 July, 10am to 12pm OR 1 to 3pm In the nineteenth-century Jean Louis Gourdoux the ‘velocipede’ or tricycle and merged it with the rocking horse to create a three-wheeled bike, made in France by the Jugnet factory, which had the body of a horse, a steel plate for a face and a horsehair tale. Join Carla in the Education Studio to recreate your own version of this French antique favourite. Age: 5 to 9 years THE CHARTREUSE WITH MARK MAXWELL Thursday 5 July, 10am to 12pm OR 1 to 3pm Thursday 12 July, 10am to 12pm OR 1 to 3pm Tour Into Light and soak in the themes of colour and light. Head back into the studio to create a cluster of miniature French-inspired buildings, using the bright light and colours explored in the exhibition as your inspiration. Age: 5 to 9 years MAKE YOUR OWN MINIATURE THEATRE w CARLA MAXWELL Friday 6 July, 10am to 3pm (BYO lunch, no nuts please) Toy theatres were hugely popular in the nineteenth century and were collected by adults and children alike. Successful productions from popular theatres would be reproduced in miniature to recreate the performances for family and friends at home. In this workshop, build and decorate your own miniature theatre. Age: 6 to 12 years PERFORMING INTO LIGHT WITH EMIL FREUND Friday 13 July, 10am to 3pm (BYO lunch, no nuts please) Enjoy a day of theatre-making, drawing inspiration from Into Light. Collaborate in groups to write, direct, and perform short pieces. Learn how to create a performance from your first idea through to realization, exploring narrative, character, and composition. Dawn’s personal studio is located in Dunnstown, a semi rural environment 10km outside of Ballarat (on the Melbourne side) and is also available for birthday parties, teambuilding and reflection workshops if you would like to combine tranquil surroundings into your art experience. CASUAL STUDIO SPACE HIRE Casual Studio Space hire is available during shop opening hours and is a shared unsupervised/untutored space. It is ideal for people who have projects that they don’t have enough space to realise at home - anyone from the hobbyist through to a professional artist with a short term project. The room has ample bench space and loads of shelving for storing works in progress. EXHIBITION SPACE Pop into Claymotion to see what it or follow on Facebook All Welcome Exhibition Space - calling for 2018 proposals. This new space in Mair Street, Ballarat features a hanging system and plinths for the display of both 2D and 3D artwork. Proposals are encouraged for all mediums and are being accepted from artists Australia wide. Wendouree Centre For Performing Arts 1220 Howitt Street, Wendouree - 0353 380980 wcpa.com.au MUSICAL MURDER MYSTERY July 19-21 Multiple times Learn how to make a drypoint etching with printmaker Bridget Farmer. In this workshop you will learn how to scratch into and prepare a drypoint plate. You will then ink up the plate and, using a printing press, create your own original print. For beginners to practising artists, all are welcome! This class will take place in Bridget’s home town of Guildford, (just 10 mins south of Castlemaine and 20 mins north of Daylesford) in one of Australia’s oldest music halls. There will be a maximum of only 6 students in each class to maximise individual attention. Workshop runs from 10am until 4pm. We will break for lunch at 1pm which can be bought across the road in Guildford’s wonderful general store.
