Facts about Danish offshore Oil & Gas and Offshore Wind Denmark has been active in the offshore business for more than 40 years. The fi rst oil discovery in the North Sea was done in 1966 by Dansk Undergrunds Consortium. Production was initiated in 1972, and since then production has increased and technology has been dramatically improved. Within offshore wind, Denmark has also been pioneering the sector. The fi rst offshore wind farm in the world was erected in 1992, near Vindeby in south Denmark, Since then, hundreds of additional offshore wind turbines have been erected in Danish waters, and Danish wind turbines have been sold to many countries around the world. The following section presents facts and fi gures for the current status of the Danish offshore sector - oil and gas as well as wind. Figures are from 2007, and yearly fi gures are for the year 2006. Offshore Oil and Gas • In 1993, the amount of oil produced in Denmark reached a level equivalent to the consumption. In 2000 it was twice the size of the consumption 1972 1977 Oil Gas 8 Offshore Center Danmark Yearbook 2008 Danish Oil and Gas Production • Denmark is expected to be self-suffi cient in oil production for at least another 20- 30 years • Approximately half of the surplus in government fi nances comes from oil and gas production Oil Production [Thousand m3] Gas production [million Nm3] 25000 20000 15000 10000 - 5000 1982 1987 1992 1997 2002 Year 14000 12000 10000 8000 6000 4000 2000 - • No. of employees in the Danish offshore oil and gas industry: 10,600 • Turnover: 9.5 billion ¤ • Export: 4.6 billion ¤ • Yearly oil production: 19.8 million m3 (327,415 bbl/day) • Yearly gas production: 10.9 billion Nm3 (967.5 cf3/day) • No. of production wells: 263 • No. of water injection wells: 101 • No. of gas injection wells: 14 • No. of stationary platforms: 57 (3 sub sea) • Oil reserves: 240 million m3 (1.51 billion bbl) • Gas reserves: 120 billion Nm3 (4.2 tcf3 ) • Total production of oil: 297 mio. m3 (1.87 billion bbl) • Total production of gas: 173 mia.
