Offshore Security
Autumn 2007 a new development project
carrying the name “Offshore Security” was
started by Offshore Center Danmark.
The background for this project is serious:
Attacks on offshore installations are to be
prevented. April 2005 a suicide attack was accomplished
on a British oil tanker in the Gulf
of Arabia. Saudi Arabia has subsequently allocated
$ 5 billion to a terror security program
for the Gulf containing military forces.
The goal of the development project “Offshore
Security” is to uncover possibilities and
limits for securing offshore installations and
transport systems in the North Sea with a special
focus on Denmark. The project includes
the total offshore supply chain: from land over
the sea or the air to fl oating or fi xed offshore
installations and back again.

3 main activities are described:
Design Base: analyze on possibilities and
limits for securing offshore installations and
transport systems in the North Sea with a
special focus on Denmark.
Security program: a proposal for an interconnected
security program for a selected
on- and offshore oil and gas installation in the
North Sea.
Dissemination of the project results in brochures
and a conference.
The project is supported by the Danish Ministry
of Science by DKK 0,5 million and the
project period is August 2007 until July 2009.
