Market Requirements and Competence Developments of Newcomers to the Danish Offshore Oil and Gas Market To an increasing extent Small and Mediumsized Enterprises (SME) approach the offshore oil and gas industry as a new and interesting market. The market is considered as having a good growth and a reasonable return on investment. The offshore sector is however highly technical and complex, which often can be seen as a high entrance barrier by a new SME. A consequence of the above is that small and medium-sized companies frequently contact Offshore Center Danmark to get assistance and knowledge in connection with market penetration on the offshore oil and gas area. This new project will identify the entrance barriers for new SME’s and lower them for the newcomers to the Danish offshore oil and gas market. 70 Offshore Center Danmark Yearbook 2008 The following industrial sectors are represented in the offshore oil and gas sector: operators, offshore service and component providers, logistic and transport providers, HR, IT, materials providers of steel, aluminiums, composites etc. The project shall identify the opportunities for the companies, and focus will be directed to small and medium-sized enterprises in Denmark. In 2002 40% of the Danish offshore market was international orientated. In 2006 this had grown to 50%. On management when new SME’s approach the offshore oil and gas market: • Approach on the offshore market is an important strategic decision • Does the offshore market suit the SME’s existing core business? • Offshore knowledge is wanted by the manufacturers • Developed management systems required on HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, Quality). • With an advantage the SME might start as a 2nd or 3rd link supplier on the offshore market. • Offshore market has no place for “TRIAL AND ERROR”. Entering the market is to be done carefully. ■ 2006 2006 Engineering and environmental assistance From the west coast office located in Esbjerg, NIRAS provide engineering and environmental assistance to the international offshore industry, within the following disciplines: • Structural • Mechanical • Electrical (power, switchboard, load sharing) • Instrumentation • Automation • Production Process Control (SCADA) • HVAC (heating, ventilation and airconditioning) • Safety (ESD, F/G) • Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and envi- ronmental surveys • Environmental communication including dialogue with authorities • Waste handling and treatment During partnership in OCE (Offshore Consortium Esbjerg), NIRAS also provide turnkey projects and packages starting from detailed design through procurement, manufaturing and installation to on-going maintenance and service agreements.
