Competences and Resources for the Oil Sectors - CROSS A lack of manning resources is seen as one of the biggest obstacles for Danish offshore internationalization and further growth. The Danish offshore industry is experiencing a declining number of qualifi ed job seekers. It was therefore decided to initiate untraditional ways to attract resources, among others, looking at countries with no or very few oil and gas related activities and attract people from there. Offshore Center Danmark has asked its members to participate in a questionnaire to defi ne a need of qualifi ed human resources and offshore competences. The results of the questionnaire have shown that companies in the offshore industry are currently missing 180 new employees and a total of 320 new employees for the coming year. 2/3 of all companies feels that it is diffi cult to recruit the new employees. Germany, Scandinavia and the Baltic countries were mentioned among the potential sources for new human resources. 66 Offshore Center Danmark Yearbook 2008 In this regard Offshore Center Danmark has participated in a job fair in Kolding where focus was on the potential employees from Germany. Additionally, Offshore Center Danmark was present at job fairs in Hamburg and Berlin. All the attempts have resulted in an increased interest in opportunities within the Danish offshore industry and have helped participating companies in recruiting new employees. The essential focus in the project is on upgrading the existing educational level of the new employees required to be able to work in the offshore sector and to match the particular Danish standards. An analysis of the existing education for the industry has been made taking interviews with the representative companies in the industry to investigate their judgement of the existing offshore education. Companies are in general satisfi ed with the education offered, although they require a better adjustment to offshore.
