Aluminium is characterized by light weight<br />

and being non-corrosive. Aluminium is only<br />

sparsely used on Danish offshore platforms,<br />

but has proven to be a viable offshore material<br />

within certain specialised areas. The<br />

offshore industry has a massive focus on corrosion<br />

and weight and looks upon aluminium<br />

as a possible alternative material.<br />

both operators, contractors and subsuppliers<br />

In order to identify the market for aluminium<br />

use offshore, <strong>Offshore</strong> <strong>Center</strong> <strong>Danmark</strong><br />

coordinated a team of companies and institutions<br />

working on a market screening of the<br />

status, possibilities and barriers for the use<br />

of aluminium to traditional steel structures<br />

offshore.<br />

The project was completed early 2007 with<br />

the screening presented at a conference in<br />

Esbjerg. ■<br />
