Esbjerg. Hess Denmark<br />
A/S is the operator of<br />
the Syd-Arne platform since its completion<br />
in 1999. The Hess Corporation has operations<br />
in the United States, United Kingdom,<br />
Norway, Denmark, Equatorial Guinea,<br />
Gabon, Azerbaijan, Thailand and Indonesia.<br />
On the Norwegian side DONG Energy is<br />
partner in three oil producing fi elds –<br />
namely Ula, Gyda and Tambar. The company<br />
participates also in the Glitne license,<br />
which went into production in 2001.<br />
Angola<br />
In June 2005 Maersk Oil acquired a 50%<br />
production share of Block 16 approximately<br />
100 km off the coast of Angola. The water<br />
depth is between 200 and 1,500 meters.<br />
Maersk Oil is operator and together with<br />
partners Devon (15%), Odebrecht (15%)<br />
and stateowned Sonangol (20%), an agreed<br />
exploration program is presently being pursued<br />
in the area.<br />
In June 2006 new agreements were made for<br />
Blocks 16, 8 and 23, with a Maersk Oil share<br />
of 50%. The partners are Occidental Petroleum<br />
(30%) and Sonangol (20%). The water<br />
depths are up to 500 meters in Block 8 and<br />
1,500 meters in Block 23 respectively. The<br />
exploration program has been initiated with<br />
collection of seismic data with subsequent<br />
drilling of test wells.<br />

Qatar<br />
On December 1st 2005,<br />
Maersk Oil and Qatar Petroleum<br />
agreed to redevelop the Al<br />
Shaheen fi eld offshore Qatar. The<br />
redevelopment plan involves more<br />
than 160 production and water injection<br />
wells over a 6-year period beginning<br />
2006. The plan includes the constructions<br />
of 3 new offshore platform complexes with<br />
production and staffi ng platforms – 18<br />
new platforms in total – interconnected by<br />
subsea pipelines. The Al Shaheen oil production<br />
is quickly growing from an initial<br />
240,000 barrels of oil per day in 2006 to a<br />
level of 525,000 barrels of oil per day by<br />
the end of 2009. For reference, Denmark is<br />
currently producing 310,000 barrels per day.<br />
As part of the development plan Maersk Oil<br />
Qatar will construct and operate a number<br />
of additional plants for processing and supply<br />
of natural gas to Qatar Petroleum for<br />
usage on their land-based installations.<br />
Kazakhstan<br />
Maersk Oil operates two oil fi elds in Kazakhstan,<br />
including the Saigak fi eld. Maersk<br />
Oil’s share of production was 2,400 barrels<br />
of oil per day in 2006. Maersk Oil also has<br />
a 60% share as operator on the Temir block<br />
in Western Kazakhstan, with Canadian<br />
Arawak as 40% share owner.<br />
The Saigak fi eld was put into production in<br />
2002, and includes fi ve wells, production facilities<br />
and has a capacity of 30,000 barrels<br />
per day, with a pipeline leading to a terminal<br />
in Shubarkuduk.<br />
In 2002 Maersk Oil acquired a 60% share<br />
as operator on the Dunga block. Paretex and<br />
Oman Oil each have a share of 20%.<br />
Turkmenistan<br />
In 2002 Maersk Oil entered into a production<br />
agreement for blocks 11 and 12, in an<br />
area of 5,700 km 2 outside Turkmenistan in<br />
the Caspian Sea. Exploration activities have<br />
been initiated. Maersk Oil has a share of<br />
36% with Wintershall as operator with 34%,<br />
and OMEL having acquitted the remaining<br />
30%.
