the 40+ oil and gas platforms of the Danish North Sea. This industry was quick to spot the possibilities for knowledge exchange with the traditional wind industry, and vice versa. - During the last years, the offshore wind farms have been fi ne tuned to the extreme conditions, and we are happy to state that stability has been achieved with also higher accessibility for maintenance. The offshore wind farms now achieve high operation times in line with specifi cations, and also the market seems convinced, Peter Blach, director of Offshore Center Danmark, states. Offshore Center Danmark has been initiating the knowledge exchange amongst some of the Danish offshore companies and institutions, and has also taken on responsibilities on a re- 26 Offshore Center Danmark Yearbook 2008 gional level. The center has thus participated in a 3-year North-European project – POW- ER – The North Sea Competence Network, with participants from Denmark, England, Germany, Holland and Belgium. The Network scope has been to create the best possible framework for offshore wind energy, including the supply chain, the educational frames and the regional strategies. - Our goal has been to strengthen the international cooperation within offshore wind, including dialogue with authorities, research institutions, companies and other partners, all with the aim of ensuring a solid base for the expected massive expansion within offshore wind farms in the countries. We have reached many of our targets - but even more needs to be achieved, before we can Growing together with our Clients A2SEA - providing solid foundations state that the project has been a success, Peter Blach states. - In order to ensure optimal conditions for offshore wind as well in the rest of the world, the experience from the POWER project, should be transferred to other countries – so that Denmark can maintain its leadership role within offshore wind – with companies as Vestas, Siemens Wind Power and DONG Energy being major players. With the new EU vision that 20% of the total energy consumption must come from wind energy in 2020, major challenges lie ahead. Offshore wind will take a large share of these 20%, and Danish companies are prepared for these challenges, is Peter Blach’s opinion. ■ A2SEA is the market leader in offshore wind turbine installation services with project experience throughout Europe. Our track record has provided us with the knowledge and expertise to step up to the exciting challenges of the rapidly developing offshore wind market.
