LAUGHTER MATTERS
Richard: “So what age group are you working with?”
Luka: “I work with children who have just been born up to
about 13 years old.”
Richard: “So you are going in as a Clown and you are
playing music and telling jokes?”
Luka: “We learn improvisation, so depending upon the age
of the child and what condition they are in, depends on
whether we use humour or music, or both together. It just
depends on the situation and the child.”
Richard: “So being a Clown helps to heal the children?”
Luka: “It depends on the situation of child. Some children
are very ill. It is more just to help them through to the end,
it really depends on their condition. With each situation
we channel what the person needs, to help the family and
the children.”
Richard: “Why did you decide to take on this role?”
Luka: “I lived for a number of years in a little village which
had about 20 people in it, and I realised that I wanted to do
more. I wanted to help people in society. Once I made that
I decision I coincidentally met someone, or NOT, it was
fate! So I met the association of the Clowns and it all
started.”
Richard: “Do you feel like a bit of a Clown?”
Luka: "I feel that the clown is the real side of everybody.
Everybody puts a mask on, but the smallest mask in the
world is the little red nose, and even though it is a mask,
you connect with the best part of yourself."
Richard: "So what is the best part of yourself?"
Luka: "When you are not afraid of being yourself."
Richard: "Which could be your inner child?"
Luka: "Jango Edwards, who is a very famous clown, he said
that a clown is someone who uses parts of the child which
Above: Luka as a Clown
is inside of you. But use it with the adult side of you, because it
is not about being a stupid little child, it is rather using the two
sides to create a clown."
Richard: "Ok, I can understand why you have chosen that role.
Now I am curious about your music. You play the guitar, the
flute, the hand organ and you sing! When did you start playing
music?"
Luka: "In 2010, in Ecuador, I was part of a healing ceremony and
after I did that I wanted to investigate more into the therapy
side of music."
Richard: "So at what age did you start playing music?"
Luka: "I started playing music at 8 yrs old when I taught myself
how to play the harmonica. I have always been interested in
music because my grandfather played the violin in theatres
when there were silent movies."
