Gail the Snail
On a gate by the lake sits Gail the snail,
She's going with Jake on the lake for a sail,
She baked apple cake in a very large pail,
To eat with Jake while they sit on the rail.
Jake is a snake who lives near a drain,
He stopped to buy bait and missed the last train,
He bravely raced into the pouring rain,
But lost his way down a very long lane.
A quail and her baby came by that day,
They saw Gail on the gate and stopped to say,
'Why do you wait on the gate by the lake?',
Gail said, 'I'm waiting for the snake named Jake'.
Gail waited until the last light of day,
She raced off home her cake to store,
Coming to her house she knew not what to say,
For there was Jake, asleep on the bait at the door.
