All My Loving

The other day I was on my way to a local
brewery in Moffat Beach on the Sunshine
Coast. A pile of mags in my arms, my phone
and keys in my hands and work on my mind, I
almost didn’t notice the place that is the basis
of this little love story.
It sounds cheesy but after entering Holloway
Gallery I forgot for a moment what I was doing
and got lost in the peace of art. Every piece
caught my eye but when I saw “All My Loving”
I was blown away.
The artist responsible for this incredible
artwork, Kyarna, was there herself and when
she told me about the technique she used for
the piece, my mind automatically turned back
to my initial mission: Finding things, people
and stories I want to share with our readers.
Kyarna knew of smorgasboarder and thankfully
loves it. “Do you surf” I asked.
Her face suddenly looked guilty, as if she was
scared I’d think less of her if she wasn’t a surfer.
“I’ve been trying…” she said before adding: “I
do SUP!”
I loved that and told her smorgasboarder is
not about good surfers and bad surfers. It’s
about passion, culture and the appreciation of
art and skills.
“All My Loving” took Kyarna 340 hours. It
consists of thousands and thousands of
tiny dots (which is why the gallery placed a
magnifying glass near the piece!)
Now Kyarna, this reminds me of the work a
surfboard shaper performs: A long process
creating something nobody else can do the
same way as you, with an outcome so unique
and beautiful: That’s the art of the craft.
Maybe Kyarna is a surfer after all.
