They’re places that conjure up magic memories of times spent in the ocean, either in complete isolation or amongst family and friends. Such structures however are much more than idyllic holiday destinations, permanent residences or mere feats of architecture and ingenuity, they are often monuments to self-expression - a reflection of the owner’s own personality. Some are familiar, others exotic, some are quite basic and others offer respite from the busy lives we lead, offering a chance to escape and step back in time to when life was a lot simpler. That is indeed the true beauty and tranquillity of surfing. It presents us with a chance for contemplation, to pause and reflect upon our life and visualise the future. Surf shacks offer up an extension of our time spent surfing, a further avenue to feed our soul with good vibes. 18
