Continued from Issue 2: Emily is
concerned for her little sister's safety.
It’s Zoe’s 8th birthday today, Emily is
completely overwhelmed with fear and
worry for her sister due to Emily’s past…
I need to do
something, but what?
I can’t tell anyone what
happened, what’s really going
on. Every time I think I can I
freeze and the words just
don’t come out.
I need to
get out of here.
I need to clear
my head and
come up with
a plan.
It’s like my
lips won’t move
like they’re glued
shut somehow.
Sure what
would telling anyone
do anyway he’s an adult
and I’m just a kid. No
one would believe me
anyway.
But what if
I fail to stop this
happening to Zoey
too? I need to get
back to make sure
she’s okay.
Emily, what’s
wrong? Where'd
you go? You’ve
missed most of
the Party!
Oh no!!
With him?
Nothing, just
went for some
air! Where's Zoey
and Jim? Where
are they?
What!! calm
down. Zoey is
upstairs in her
room and…
ZOEY!!
Hey, Em!
what’s up? Come
look at my new
toys.
You
okay?
Yeah!
Look at all
the toys I
got...
how am I
supposed to protect
her when I couldn’t
even protect myself?
I'm so afraid for
Zoe tho...
Is
everything
okay, Em?
Yes of
course. I just
wanted a hug from
my favourite
sister that’s
all.
I’m
your only
sister,
sil ly.
I know
but you’re
still my
favourite.
Just a little
longer? Or
maybe a sleep
over?
No Emily,
it’s a school
night and you
both have had an
extra hour
already.
But,
Mum...
Nothing.
It doesn’t
matter. Night, Zo.
I’m only next
door if you
need me.
I said no.
What’s with
you today?
Time for
bed, Zoe!
You’ve
been acting
strange
al l day.
I know.
Night, Em.
What am I
going to do?
What can I do?
Can I even help
her?
No!! Stay
away from her,
leave Zoey
alone!
What?
Thats not
ZoeY!
Best to
go to sleep
now if I
can!
No, No,
NO!
It's
me!
You look
really pretty
today, Em. You’re
such a beautiful
girl.
It’s
years
ago!
No!
this can’t be
happening, please
no. Don’t trust
him.
Thanks, Jim.
I’m wearing the
dress you got
me.
No!
No stop it,
leave her... ME !
Leave me
alone!!
Please
stop!!
Jim?
Honey?
Come here, I
need you!!
Mum!
Yes, call
him away!
Go away,
Jim!
Why didn’t
I see it then? Why
didn’t I do something
then? That way
nothing would have
happened.
Okay, coming
now, darlin!
What’s this?
I seem older…
Oh I’m 10
here!
You look
pretty today,
Em, what are
you watching?
Are you
not going to
snuggle in?
Have
you got a
boyfriend
yet, Em?
Amm well,
yeah, I
suppose.
I’m sure
all the boys
at school are
chasing you.
Ammm...
Thank you.
Nothing
much.
Ah...No. I
don’t talk...
to any... boys
at school.
When is
this going
to end??
Good, Em!
Keep it that way.
I’m the only
man you can
trust.
Who’s
that?
Hey, Zo! You
coming in for
a snuggle
too?
Yeah,
okay!
Hey, Zo...
lets go play in
your room instead.
We can play make
believe with your
new shop set.
It’s not true.
Don’t believe a
word he says.
Yeah,
good idea.
Come on!
Hey!
Thank God,
Zoey!
I’m
older again.
about 12?
OH NO!
...a little
bit longer?
Please,
Mum?
Come on,
sweetie... time
for bed.
Please
give her more
time. You don’t
know what’s
coming!!
No, honey!
you’ve been up
here all evening
doing homework.
you need your
rest.
Ok, Mum!
I’ll just go
to bed. Night
night.
Please don’t
leave, Mum...
don’t leave her
on her own!
Good, girl!
goodNight,
sweetie.
Night, Jim.
I’m going to
bed! Don’t be
too long.
Okay I’ll be
up soon, honey.
I’m just going
to finish this
Programme.
Please,
just let me
sleep...
PLEASEEE!
It’s no use
it’s going to
happen there’s
nothing you can
do. Oh no I hear
him coming!
Im awake!
It was just a
nightmare. It
wasn’t happening
now! It was just
a dream.
No, no,
please no.
Not again.
Nooooo!
I can’t think
about this, I
just can ’t…
I need to
do something...
but what?
How can
I change what
I know is going
to happen?
Meanwhile...
What am
I going to
do?
I’ve got
two beautiful
girls... Who are
all mine!
two pints
please...
Nah,
I’m okay, I’ve
still got one
mate…
Well you
best finish it
then chum because
you’ve got another
one coming.
Is that
your Zoey there,
and Emily too?
Well...
haven’t they both
turned out to be
stunners.
Alritte,
Jim! how’s
it going?
Aye they
have, Beautiful
girls the pair
of them.
They aren't
interested in
boys! They both
know I’m the only
man they can
trust anyway.
Won’t
be long now
until the boys
are sniffing
around.
I didn’t
realise they
were yours,
Jim.
They’ll
always be
mine.
Well, Jim, it
was nice seeing
you again. You
know I was only
messing with
you.
You take
good care of
those girls
of yours.
I always
do mate.
They’re safe
with me.
I dunno,
that Emily has the
makings of a wild
one; you’re losing
your control that’s
for sure.
Emily knows
no one loves her
as much as I do. No
boys will match up
to a parent’s
love.
Such a
wind-up
merchant!
If I
was you I’d be
checking in on
them when you get
in to make sure
they’re safe.
See ya,
Jim!
Morning!
What’s wrong?
You look
terrible.
Nothing...
I just didn’t
sleep well.
Aww my
poor baby. I’ll
make you a nice cup
of cocoa and your
favourite breakfast
to cheer you
up.
It’s okay
mum I’m not
that hungry and I
need to get ready
for school
anyway.
Morning,
Em.
Mornin’...
Something
the matter?
you don’t seem
yourself.
It’s ok,
Em! you can
tell me. You
know you can
trust me.
I’ve said
I’m fine.
I can tell
that you’re not.
Is somebody
bothering you?
No. It’s
nothing. I need
to get ready
for school.
If
you’re sure,
Honey.
I’m fine.
honest.
Bye, Mum.
We’re off to
school.
Bye!
Bye,
girls.
Hey, Zo,
did anything
happen last
night?
What
do you
mean?
Well, I
woke up when
Jim came in to
give me a good
night kiss.
Tell
her what
happened...
I... I...,
No reason
I was just
wondering.
Bye, Mum!
Bye, Jim!
What?
Did
anything
else
happen?
Like you
didn’t wake up
at all? You were
fast asleep all
night?
he just gave
me a kiss and
said goodnight
like he always
does. Why?
You’re
silly, Em. Why
would Jim do
anything
else?
I really
want to tell
her what
happened! But
I cant!
Just forget
it, Zo! I’m just
being silly. meet
you here after
school.
Okay, Em.
see you
later.
Hey, Em!
Jeepers, you
look awful.
Are you ok?
Oh hey,
Lil. I didn’t
see you
there.
Yeah I’m
fine just
didn’t sleep
very well!
Are you
sure? You
really
don’t look
I’m fine
honest.
I'll catch
you later!
Later in class...
Why
can’t I tell
anyone what’s
happened to
me?
Why won’t
the words
come out?
Maybe because
I'm tired
I’ll
just rest
my head a
little!
Whats
going on?
Who is
that?
I know
that girl...
Emily...
Emily...
Emily..!
Emily, are
you okay? You
don’t look
well.
Sorry, sir!
I didn’t mean to
fall asleep. It
won’t happen
again.
I just
didn’t get a
lot of sleep last
night. I was up
studying.
Thanks, sir,
but I’m fine
really.
Emily I’m not
taking no for an
answer. Now get
yourself to the
nurse.
It’s ok,
Emily. I’m just
concerned
about you.
I’m giving
you a note for
the nurse and get
checked out and
then get yourself
off home.
Okay,
sir!
On way from
School...
I can’t go
home yet... My
mind is spinning
out of control
with these crazy
visions...
Verity,
you see that
girl on the
bench over
there.
Yes, I
see her. She
looks very
troubled.
Hmmm…
I think Veritas
is needed
here!...
I have a
bad feeling about
this girl, she’s in
desperate need of help
and guidance, she needs
you to show her
the Truth
Okay
I’m on this,
great to talk
to you again,
QOHELETH!
Who’s that
“being” that
keeps popping
into my
head?
Yes indeed!
I do so enjoy our
walks through the
park. Goodbye,
my dear.
Hey there!
Are you
okay?
Yeah... I’m
fine...thank
you... Who
are you?
I saw that
you were troubled
with something
and I’m here to
offer my help.
I’m afraid
you’ve wasted your
time as I don’t
think anyone can
hel p...
My dear Emily,
let me show you the
truth, I have the power to
overcome lies, to help you
set yourself free but let
me show you how and then
you can make your
mind up...
What!!!
So that’s
why I couldn’t
speak up to tell
anyone the truth
about what was
happening to
me...
Now that
you see the
truth how can I
help you to get
through this?
It’s no use...
who’s going to
believe me? I’m
just a kid.
Hey Nads,
Forty, are
you there? I think
I’ll be needing a
little extra help
here.
Sure, Veritas,
send us your
location we’re
on our way!
Not long
.After...
Hey! this is Emily.
Emily, these are my
friends Nadase and
Fortress!
Hi Emily nice
to meet you.
So, what can we
do to help?
Emily...
would you
mind telling
your story?
Okay...
I'll try...
A little
later...
it sounds
like you’ve been
through so much,
Emily. Can you
talk to others
about it?
It’ll make
things worse.
How can I tell anyone
I care about when I
feel so guilty and
ashamed of what’s
happened to me!
There’s
nothing to
be ashamed
about, Emily!
No, this
is my fault.
I let it
happen!
He’s going
to do the same
thing to my sister –
and I’m so afraid
for her, what can
I do?
and there’s
nothing I can
do about that
either.
take it from
...and open up
me it takes a lot to others about
of courage and things that you feel
strength to come embarrassed
forward...
about.
...But
honestly, you’re
stronger than
you think.
If you
could only see, Maybe Best
what We see. There to show her
are still forces the full truth,
at play here! Veritas...
This
ISN’T your
Fault, this
was done
to you!
Okay...
let's do
this!
It’s Jim
who should be
deeply ashamed
for what he’s
done.
What’s
going on?
I thought
I could smell the
vile stench of The
Puppeteer at
work.
Nad’s - you
protect Emily,
Fortress and I
will take care of
these clowns.
these puppets
are going to be
harder work than
we thought
No they
won’t, we need
to apply psychology
to overcome them as
that’s what they’re
doing to control
we have
Emily...
to be smarter
about how we
overcome
them…
are
you okay,
Emily?
I’m soooo
afraid and
really fearful
of the future!
I should
have known
there was something
else going on.
Everything is going
to be okay.
It took
you long enough,
Naddy. I think
you’re losing your
touch.
Do you
think you had
me fooled
Fovos
We’ll
see about
that.
you
should have
learnt by now
that Hope and
Faith conquer
all.
Come
out I know
you’re behind
there!
What?
Oh no!
Emily Look
ou-
Take this!
Didn’t
predict that
did you?
Nor did
you predict
this?
I may have
underestimated
you this time
Naddy but next
time I won’t...
NOOOO!
She’s
gone!
Hey, Kid,
are you
okay?
Yeah
thanks
to you guys.
Who were
they?
FOVOS,
The girl I
was fighting was
manipulating your
feelings to make you
feel fearful and
make you doubt
yourself!
They’re bad
people who were at
the root of all your
problems - but we’ve
taken care of them
for now!
And those
puppets we were
fighting, they were
controlling you into
feeling Guilty and
shame for what was
happening.
Were
they what I
was seeing in
my dreams?
Yes, that
was the
Puppeteer’s
puppet for
silence!
he sewed
your mouth up
so you couldn’t
tell anyone
about what was
happening
to you.
I feel like
a weight has lifted
off me. I finally feel
like things may now
be ok. Like we will
both be okay...
but...
There’s
still something
troubling you
though?
Yea but...
But what happens
now? As I still don’t
know if anyone will
believe me – My
Mum won’t...
How
do you feel
now, Emily?
Mum loves Jim,
she only sees the good
things he does for her…
She has no idea that he’s
with her to suit his
own needs...
We’ll help
you get through
this, all you need
to do is to be open
and honest and
things will work
out.
Remember,
Emily, you are
braver than you
believe...
stronger
than you think and
loved more than you
know, we will help
your Mother to
believe you don’t
worry.
Emily, you
still aren’t
seeing that
you’re now able
to tell the
truth...
I can’t tell
her on my own!
What happens if
they just laugh
at me?
Think, Emily,
there must be someone
you could confide in or who
could help and support
you? Like a family member,
a neighbour or a
trusted teacher?
actually there
is one teacher...
he’s always looking
out for us kids.
Mr Edwards!
We have now
given you a new sense
of hope, strength and
resilience, along with
our help this means that
you can accomplish
anything!
Well why
don’t you and Nads go
and see this Mr Edwards
and see if we can help
you to have someone
there when you tell
your mum?
That’s
awesome. Thank
you, I couldn’t
have done thi
on my own!
And don’t
worry about Jim!
We’ve a friend
who’ll be there to
help keep you safe!
we must go right So we
now! should go talk
to Mr edwards
right away. Is he
at the school?
Yeah okay.
I think he said he
was marking our
exam papers this
afternoon.
Emily,
hello…
What are
you doing here,
I thought you
went home?
I sort
of did, sir. but
I’ve a problem
and I hope that
maybe you can
help me?
This is
Nadase! She's
a friend that’s
helping me. She’s
an Uberhero. Nice to
meet you,
Nadase.
Oh I see,
well…I’ll try
my best!
Same to you,
Mr Edwards!
we should sit
down...
So Emily
what seems to
be upsetting
you?
It’s okay,
Emily, just take
your time. I’m
right here if
you need me.
tHANKS!
Well, the
problem is at home...
Jim, Mum’s “Friend” is
the problem, it first
started when I was
just 8.
Yes. I’ve
met him a few
times, but I can’t
say that I know
him...
Well he’s
not the man
everyone thinks
he is.
What
do you
mean?
Well he… He…
He’s been touching
me and saying things
to me and doing
things that he
shouldn ’t.
Oh, Emily...
I am sooo very
sorry to hear this,
how awful, no wonder
you have been
distracted
in class.
I’m sorry,
sir... I didn’t
mean to pull
away... its
just-
Your
reaction
is totally
understandable.
Don’t apologise,
Emily! it was my
fault I should have
known not to
reach out to
you.
No. I was
hoping you could help
me with that. I can’t tell
Mum by myself!!! I thought
if you were there She might
listen and believe me, as
she knows you from the
PTA meetings…
Oh… I see
Well I’m sure your
mum will be shocked but
will ultimately believe you
Emily but I will come with
you if that’s what you need
to feel supported while
you speak with her!
Dont
touch
me!
Who else
knows about
this? Does your
Mum know?
thank
you, sir.
Well Emily
I will leave you
now if you feel
safe enough.
Yes, I’m
okay now.
Thank you
for all your
hel p.
I will send
our friend round
to your house to
meet you when you
get home.
And don’t
worry Jim’s days
of controlling and
hurting you are
over. And Thank
you Mr. Edwards!
Bye,
Nadase!!
So what
time does Jim
normally get
home?
Hmmn, best
we go to your
house now to try
and avoid a scene
with him.
I need to
pick up my
sister from
school.
That’s
okay. we can
collect her
on our way.
That’s
quite
okay.
Usually
around 5:30
but sometimes
he comes back
earlier.
We’ll
sort this out
Emily try not
to worry.
A little later...
What’s
going on, Em?
Why are we
leaving early?
Who is he?
Oh my...
Here we are...
This is our
house Mr
Edwards!
Em..?
zo...? What’s
going on?
Mr Edwards?
I need
to talk with
you, mum!
What’s going
on, Emily? Mr
Edwards what do
you need to speak
to me about?
Nothing to
worry about Zo
we just get to go
home earlier today,
as Mr Edwards, my
teacher, and I
need to speak
with Mum.
Don't worry,
Emily, it'll be
okay...
Mum, he’s
here to help me
with something. I
need to talk to
you...
C’mon,
Let’s go
home!
Okay, Mr
Edwards. And
Thank you for
being here...
Hey Zo, why
don’t you go put
one of your
cartoons on
upstairs...
I think it’s
probably best
if we all sit
down.
...And that
you’re here
with Mr
Edwards?
So what’s
wrong Emily? What
have you done that
is so bad that you
couldn’t tell me
yourself...
I’ll
get the
door...
Hey there,
I bet you're
Emily?
Yes. Are
you another
of Nadase’s
friends?
Name's
Invictus, ma’am,
and I am here to
support you and
your daughter.
Oh... hello...
nice to meet
you, but support
us in what
exactly..?
Go on,
Emily, it's
safe to
talk!
Mum, sit
down and
I’ll tell you
everything...
Yeah, I’m
Invictus!
and I’m
just here to
ensure that things
don’t get out
of hand if Jim
comes home.
Can
someone
please tell
me what’s
going on?
Oh...
Emily..
.
I’m sorry,
Mum. I just
couldn’t keep
it in any
longer.
It’s got
worse since Zo’s
birthday as all I
could imagine was him
also going into
Zoey’s room.
Please
say you
believe
me?
Oh
Emily..!
I’m so
sorry... I didn’t
know... I never
even suspected
anything!
I’m so
sorry, my
poor girl!
I believe
you! you have
nothing to
apologise for. I wish
you’d have
told me sooner,
but I get why you
thought you
couldn’t tell
me.
Thank you so
much for helping
my daughter. I
don’t know how
I can begin to
repay you.
No need to
thank me. It’s
what anyone
would have
done.
It wasn't
easy...
What’s
going on
here then?
Emily are you in
trouble?
Jim?
No
but you
are!
How dare you?
I can’t believe how
you have hurt my daughter!
I may have been oblivious
to your behaviour but now
I’m very much aware of
what has happened.
You know
what you’ve done!
You’re not staying
in this house, so
get out!
What have
you done,
Emily? what
lies have you
told??
What’s
wrong with you,
woman? what are
you talking
about?
Look, darlin,
I don’t know what
lies she’s said but
it’s not true.
Please can we talk
about this?
There’s
nothing to talk
about. You are vile
and disgusting and
the sight of you is
making me feel sick.
Just get out.
You
little
witch!
What
have you done?
Your lies are
going to ruin
everything.
I got thi-
Now, Jim...
there’s no need
for this; you
need to let
her go.
You pair of
lying cows, you
may have turned on
me but I still have
one girl left who
will love me no
matter what!
Where
do you think
you’re going,
Jim?
Who the
hell are you?
Get out of
my way...
...Or
else...
Or
else...
...WHAaT?
You
are really
getting on my
nerves! This is
my house
and my
family…
Let me
go before
things get
serious...
you’re in no
position to be
making threats, Jim.
I’ll happily let you
go when you
promise me that
you’ll
...but try
anything funny
I promise you’ll
regre-
Have
this...
...you big
freak!
Alright,
alright… I’ll
calm down!
Okay...
You just
made a big
mistake,
Jimbo!
You were
warned! someone
needs to teach
you a lesson, my
friend!
Let’s see
if maybe I can
help adjust
your attitude,
Jimbo!
Maybe by
smashing you
through the
table...
...you
aren’t worth
the effort or
the grief.
No...
pleeaase...
Don't
worry!
I wouldn’t
waste my energy
on you even if I
have the capability
to do so...
That's why
you're gonna
stand here with
me until the the proper
Police arrive. authorities
will take care
of what happens
to you!
Not long after...
I'm
exhausted,
Mr Edw-
Call me
Sean!
Come on
inside... it's
all over!
It’ll be okay
now!
Thank you,
for everything,
Invictus...
I really didn’t
do much! You’re the
one who found your
inner strength and
spoke to the people
you knew would help
and support
you.
and by doing
this you became
your families very
own hero. Although,
I’m always here to
help you overcome
anything, kiddo...
I will..!
remember
that!
3 months later...
Well,
Emily has
been through
a lot...
...from a really
young age but she
managed to gather inner
strength and resilience,
she had a real hope that
her future would
improve...
...she
managed to triumph
over evil when she told
the truth and with others
supporting and helping
her she overcome
the odds.
...this could be
in your own life
or in someone else’s
life, you need to tell
the truth, and get help
from other support
services and from
people you know
and trust.
Just remember,
these qualities
are really important
if you’re ever faced with
overcoming abuse and
or controlling
behaviour...
Yeah,
QOHELETH?
What’s
happening?
Invictus, we need you
and Nadase at the
compound, there’s
about to be trouble...
Roger that
QOHELETH...
We’re
On our
way..!
...To be continued!
