Locomotor skills<br />
The order in which locomotor skills develop is crawl, walk, run, jump, leap, gallop, hop, side slide<br />
and then skip 22 .<br />
Summary description<br />
Crawl 22<br />
It is the action of transferring weight from one opposing<br />
set of knee and hand (e.g. left knee and right hand)<br />
onto the other set. The support knee and hand remain in<br />
contact with the ground whilst the other knee and hand<br />
leave the ground to move forward.<br />
Key points<br />
• Body is raised off the ground by hands and knees<br />
• Opposite arm, opposite leg action<br />
• <strong>Move</strong>ment is forward rather than backward<br />
Summary description<br />
Walk 22<br />
It is the action of transferring weight from the balls and<br />
toes of one foot to the heel of the other foot. There is<br />
continual contact with the ground.<br />
Key points<br />
• Body is straight / posture is upright<br />
• Toes pointed ahead<br />
• <strong>We</strong>ight is evenly distributed over all five toes<br />
• Feet are moved side by side, rather than in a wide<br />
legged stance<br />
• Arms swing in opposition to legs<br />
