INNOVATORS TAKE CENTRE STAGE AS THE FOCUS FALLS ON SUSTAINABILITY
A FOOD sharing app, a cable that turns
street lights into electric vehicle charging
stations, and a zero-waste hotel were just
a few pioneering concepts recognised at
London’s most famous ‘green carpet’ awards
bash.
Judges and shortlisted entrants flocked to
The Crystal, Siemens’ sustainable exhibition
centre, on 12 July for the 2018 instalment of
the Sustainable City Awards, created by the
City Corporation and now led by London
Sustainability Exchange.
Each year the ceremony seeks to honour
forward-thinking projects and initiatives
concocted by businesses, charities and
community groups as well as public sector
organisations.
The latest batch of innovators were presented
with their gongs by Shirley Rodrigues, the
deputy mayor of London for environment and
energy.
Achievements
“I’d like to congratulate all of the winners on
their fantastic achievements,” she said.
“The Mayor is committed to protecting and
improving London’s environment, as well as
making the most of the social and economic
opportunities it brings.
“[The] winners – and all the shortlisted
entrants – demonstrate exactly the kind of
innovation and leadership that will help us
make London greener, cleaner and ready for the
future.”
Awards were presented across five categories,
including Sustainable Mobility, Innovative
Spaces, Managing Resources, Healthier City,
and Smart Technology, with an overall winner
and three recipients of the Sir Peter Parker
Award, which recognises firms that have
successfully set new standards of innovation,
performance and environmental leadership.

landowners and businesses, the project aims to

multi-national corporation,” said Samantha
Health, who is the chief executive of London
Sustainability Exchange.
