The teaching and learning activities in this English Preschool Activity<br />

Book follows closely the National Preschool Curriculum Standard (2017)<br />

to develop the following core skills in the language:<br />

Listening skills<br />

Speaking skills<br />

Reading skills<br />

Writing skills<br />

Each unit begins with a phonic song followed by reinforcement and<br />

enrichment activities to enhance the above four skills. Keywords are used<br />

to introduce all the names of the alphabets, phonemes and basic phonics.<br />

Fine motor control that involves colouring, channelling, tracing and<br />

copying activities are introduced gradually and systematically to<br />

develop writing skills. The unit ends with a picture that encourages<br />

pupils to create a story based on the picture that helps to<br />

develop higher order thinking skills (HOTS).<br />

Unit 1: Fun with Alphabets: a to z<br />

Listen and say sentences in alliteration (a to z).<br />

Channel, trace and copy the letters (a to z).<br />

Unit 2: Fun with Keywords: bus, mum, gus<br />

Listen, say and recognise the key words ‘bus’,<br />

‘mum’, ‘gus’.<br />

Associate the picture with the spoken word.<br />

Write and say the sounds of the letters u, b, m, g,<br />

and s in the above keywords.<br />

Segmentise and blend the sounds.<br />
