encompass other books other) than what Allaah revealed to Moosaa ‏.عليهُالسالم This fact
is attested from the Ḥadeeth.
The knowledge that he ﷺ has been mentioned in the books of the People of the
Book is an essential part of the (our) religion (and which is well known among the
Muslims and no claim of ignorance will be accepted in this case). And in the Qur’aan,
many Aayaat have been revealed as proof of that, and we (Ibn Katheer) have explained
them in (our Tafseer), and all praise is for Allaah alone. Some of these Aayaat are as
follows:
‏﴿الَّذِينَُُآتَي نَاه مُال كِتَابَ‏ ‏ُمِنُقَب لِهُِه مُبِهُِي ؤ مِن ونَُ*ُوَإِذَاُي ت لَىُعَلَي هِم ‏ُقَال واُآمَنَّاُبِهُِإِنَّه ‏ُاحل ‏َقُُُّ‏ مِنُرَّبِّنَاُإِنَّاُ‏

ك نَّاُمِنُقَب لِهُِم س لِمِنيَ﴾‏
{Those to whom We gave the Scripture [i.e. the Taurah and the Injeel] before it, -
they believe in it (the Qur’aan). And when it is recited to them, they say: “We believe
in it. Verily, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed even before it we have been from
those who submit themselves to Allaah in Islaam as Muslims (like `Abdullaah Ibn
Salaam and Salman al-Faarisee).} [Surah al-Qasas (28): 52-53]
And Allaah تعاىل says:
‏﴿الَّذِينَُآتَي نَاه م ‏ُال كِتَابَ‏ ‏ُيَع رِف ونَه ‏ُكَمَاُيَع رِف ونَُأَب نَاءَه م ‏ُُۖوَإِنَُّفَرِيق اُمِّن ه م ‏ُلَيَك ت م ونَُاحل ‏َقَُّوَه م ‏ُيَع لَم ونَ﴾‏
{Those to whom We gave the Scripture (Jews and Christians) recognize him
(Muḥammad) as they recognize their sons. But verily, a party of them conceal the
truth while they know it - [i.e. the qualities of Muḥammad which are written in the
Taurah and the Injeel].} [Surah al-Baqarah (2): 146]
And Allaah تعاىل says:
‏﴿ُق ل ‏ُآمِن واُبِهُِأَو ‏ُّلَ‏ ‏ُت ؤ مِن واُُۖإِنَُّالَّذِينَُأ وت واُال عِل مَُمِنُقَب لِهُِإِذَاُي ت لَىُعَلَي هِم ‏َُيَِرُّونَُلِْل ‏َذ قَانُِس جَّد اُ*ُ‏
وَيَق ول ونَُس ب حَانَُرَبِّنَاُإِنُكَانَُوَع د ‏ُرَبِّنَاُلَمَف ع وّل ﴾

{Say (O Muḥammad to them): “Believe in it (the Qur’aan) or do not believe (in it).
Verily! Those who were given knowledge before it (the Jews and the Christians like
`Abdullaah Ibn Salaam and Salmaan al-Faarisee), when it is recited to them, fall down
