Chapter 11: The Quraish rebuilding the Ka`bah five years before the
Prophethood
‏﴿إِنَُّأَوَّلَ‏ ‏ُبَي ت ‏ُو ضِعَُلِلنَّاسِ‏ ‏ُلَلَّذِيُبِبَكَّةَُم بَارَك اُوَه د ىُلِّل عَالَمِنيَُ*ُفِيهُِآيَات ‏ُبَيِّنَات ‏ُمَّقَام ‏ُإِب رَاهِيمَُُۖوَمَنُ‏
دَخَلَه ‏ُكَانَُآمِن اُُۖوَلِلَّهُِعَلَىُالنَّاسِ‏ ‏ُحِ‏ جُُّال بَي تِ‏ ‏ُمَنُِاس تَطَاعَُإِلَي هُِسَبِيال ﴾
{Verily, the first House (of worship) appointed for mankind was that at Bakkah
(Makkah), full of blessing, and guidance for Al-`Aalameen (the mankind and jinn). In it
are manifest signs (for example), the Maqaam (place) of Ibraaheem; whosoever
enters it, he attains security. And Ḥajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka`bah)
is a duty that mankind owes to Allaah, those who can afford the expenses (for one’s
conveyance, provision, and residence)…} [Surah aal-`Imraan (3): 96-97]
It has been reported in the Ṣaḥeeḥain from the Ḥadeeth of Abu Dharr ‏:رضيُاهللُعنه I said:
“O Allaah’s Messenger ‏!ﷺ Which Masjid was first built on the surface of the earth?”
He ﷺ said: ❝Al-Masjid al-Ḥaraam (in Makkah).❞ I said: “Which was built next?” He
replied: ❝Al-Masjid al-Aqsaa (in Jerusalem).❞ I said: “What was the period of ﷺ
construction between the two?” He ﷺ said: ❝Forty years.❞ He ﷺ added: ❝
Wherever (you may be, and) the prayer time becomes due, perform the prayer there,
for the best thing is to do so (i.e. to offer the prayers in time).❞ 66
And we (Ibn Katheer) have already addressed this, 67 and that Masjid al-Aqsaa was built
‏.عليهُالسالم by Israa’eel, i.e. Ya`qoob
In the Ṣaḥeeḥain, it is reported that the Prophet said: ❝Allaah has made this town
(Makkah) a sanctuary since the day He created the Heavens and the Earth. So, it is a
sanctuary by Allaah’s Decree till the Day of Resurrection.❞ 68
