[Furthermore, Ibn Is-ḥaaq (2/35) reported with a “Ṣaḥeeḥ” chain, on the authority of
Anas Ibn Maalik ُاهلل ُعنه ,رضي the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ was asked: ‘What is al-
Kawthar?’ He ﷺ said: ❝That is a river which Allaah has given to me❞- that is, in
Paradise - ❝which is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey, and in it are birds
whose necks are like the necks of camels.❞ `Umar رضيُاهللُعنه said: “Indeed this is plump
and luxurious then.” So the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: ❝Those who consume it
are more plumb than it.❞ 312
Ibn Is-ḥaaq also said: I also heard in this Ḥadeeth or in another one that he ﷺ said:
❝and whoever drinks from it, will never be thirsty.❞] 313
I (Ibn Katheer) say: Allaah تعاىل said:
﴿وَلَقَد ُُك ذِّبَت ُُر س لُُمِّنُقَب لِكَُُفَصَبَر واُعَلَىُُمَاُك ذِّب واُوَأ وذ وُاُحَّتَّىُُأَتَاه م ُُنَص ر نَاُُۖوَّلَُُم بَدِّلَُُلِكَلِمَاتُُِ
{Verily, (many) Messengers were denied before you (O Muḥammad), but they bore
the denial with patience, and they were harmed, till Our help reached them, and
312 I (al-Albaanee) say: This was reported in Musnad Aḥmad (13306, 13480, 13484), Sunan al-Tirmidhee (2542)
and he graded it as “Ḥasan”, and by al-Ḥaakim (3978). [TN: Shaikh al-Albaanee graded it as “Ḥasan Ṣaḥeeḥ”.]
(Shaikh al-Albaanee adds): In another narration in Musnad Aḥmad, it is mentioned as Abu Bakr instead of `Umar,
and this is rejected; and there is still another narration but its chain is “Ḍha`eef”. [TN: See Musnad Aḥmad (13311,
13475)]
313 I (al-Albaanee) said: These are part of the Aḥaadeeth of the Prophet’s cistern which are reported from a group
of Companions, as mentioned in the “Ṣaḥeeḥain” and in other books of Ḥadeeth. And they have been mentioned
in “Ẓhilaal al-Jannah” (728). What is mentioned within the brackets is addition from “al-Seerah” (of Ibn Is-ḥaaq).
[TN: Some of the narrations reported in the Ṣaḥeeḥain are:
Narrated Anas Ibn Maalik :رضيُاهللُعنه Allaah’s Messenger ﷺ said: ❝The width of my Hauḍh (Lake) is equal to the
distance between Aylah (a town in Shaam) and Sana`aa’ (the capital of Yemen) and it has as many (numerous)
jugs as the number of stars of the sky.❞ [Ṣaḥeeḥ al-Bukhaaree (6580) and Ṣaḥeeḥ Muslim (2303-39, 40) and
[رضيُاهللُعنه Muslim (2305-44) from the narration of Jaabir Ibn Samurah
Narrated `Abdullaah Ibn `Amr :رضيُاهللُعنهما The Prophet ﷺ said: ❝My Hauḍh (Lake) is (so large that it takes) a
month’s journey to cross it. Its water is whiter than milk, and its smell is nicer than musk (a kind of Perfume),
and its drinking cups are (as numerous) as the (number of) stars of the sky; and whoever drinks from it, will
never be thirsty.❞ [Ṣaḥeeḥ al-Bukhaaree (6579, 6583) and Ṣaḥeeḥ Muslim (2290-26)]]
