that He says to it: “Be!” and it is! So Glorified is He and Exalted above all that they<br />

associate with Him, and in Whose Hands is the dominion of all things, and to Him you<br />

shall be returned.} [Surah Yaaseen (36): 78-83] 279<br />

ﷺ Ibn Is-ḥaaq said: I have been informed that once, when the Messenger of <strong>Al</strong>laah<br />

was making Ṭawaaf (circumambulation) around the Ka`bah, when he was near the door<br />

of the Ka`bah, he was obstructed by al-Aswad Ibn al-Muṭṭalib, al-Waleed Ibn al-<br />

Mugheerah, Umayyah Ibn Khalaf, al-`Aaṣ Ibn Waa’il. They said: ‘O Muḥammad, come to<br />

us! We will worship what you worship, and (in return) you should worship what we<br />

worship. Let us just co-operate, you and us, in the whole thing!’ So, <strong>Al</strong>laah تعاىل revealed:<br />

‏﴿ق ل ‏ُيَاُأَيُّهَُاُال كَافِرونَُ*ُّلَ‏ ‏ُأَع ب د ‏ُمَاُتَع ب د ونَُ﴾‏<br />

{Say (O Muḥammad): “O <strong>Al</strong>-Kaafiroon (disbelievers in <strong>Al</strong>laah, in His Oneness, in His<br />

Angels, in His Books, in His Messengers, in the Day of Resurrection, and in al-Qadar,<br />

etc.)! "I worship not that which you worship…} till the end of the Surah [Surah al-<br />

Kaafiroon (109) 1-6] 280<br />

279 (Shaikh al-<strong>Al</strong>baanee said): Reported by Ibn Is-ḥaaq in his “al-<strong>Seerah</strong>” (1/487-488) in a “Mu`allaq” form, and Ibn<br />

Jareer connected its chain in his “Tafseer” (23/30) from the narrations of Mujaahid and Qataadah, but it is<br />

“Mursal”. Ibn Mardawaih connected it and reported if from Ibn `Abbaas, as al-Suyooṭee had mentioned in “al-<br />

Durr al-Manthoor” (5/269), from two routes from Ibn `Abbaas. Ibn Jareer also reported this from another route<br />

from Sa`eed Ibn Jubair, but it is also “Mursal”. In this, instead of Ubay Ibn Khalaf, it is mentioned as al-`Aaṣ Ibn<br />

Waa’il. The chain of this narration is “Ṣaḥeeḥ Mursal” (i.e. up to Sa`eed the chain is “Ṣaḥeeḥ”). Furthermore, al-<br />

Ḥaakim reported in his “al-Mustadrak” (3606) with a complete chain reaching till Ibn `Abbaas رضيُاهللُعنهما and he<br />

said: “It is “Ṣaḥeeḥ as per the condition of al-Bukhaaree and Muslim”, and al-Dhahabee agreed with him.<br />

[TN: Ibn `Abbaas رضيُاهللُعنهما said: <strong>Al</strong>-`Aaṣ Ibn Waa’il came to the Messenger of <strong>Al</strong>laah ﷺ with rotten bone and<br />

broke it in half and said: ‘O Muḥammad! Will <strong>Al</strong>laah resurrect this bone after it has disintegrated? He ﷺ said:<br />

❝Yes! <strong>Al</strong>laah will resurrect this, and He will cause you to die and then will resurrect you too, then He will make<br />

you enter the Fire.❞ Ibn `Abbaas said: then <strong>Al</strong>laah revealed the following Aayah till the end of the Surah:<br />

‏﴿أَوَلَ‏ ‏ُيَرَُاْل ‏ِنسَان ‏ُأَنَّاُخَلَق نَاه ‏ُمِنُنُّطُفَة ‏ُفَِذَاُه وَُخَصِيم ‏ُمُّبِني ﴾<br />

{Does not man see that We have created him from Nutfah (mixed male and female discharge semen drops).<br />

Yet behold! He (stands forth) as an open opponent…} [Surah Yaaseen (36): 77] [“Mustadrak” al-Ḥaakim (3606)<br />

and he said: “It is “Ṣaḥeeḥ as per the condition of al-Bukhaaree and Muslim”, and al-Dhahabee agreed with him.<br />

Shaikh Muqbil also agreed with them in in “Ṣaḥeeḥ Asbaab al-Nuzool (1/194)]]<br />

280 (Shaikh al-<strong>Al</strong>baanee said): Reported by Ibn Is-ḥaaq in “al-<strong>Seerah</strong>” (1/388), in a “Mu`allaq” form. Ibn Jareer had<br />

reported this with a connected chain in his “Tafseer” (30/331) from Ibn Is-ḥaaq that Sa`eed Ibn Mainaa’, the freed<br />

slave of al-Bakhtaree, informed him: “<strong>Al</strong>-Waleed Ibn al-Mugheerah, al-`Aaṣ Ibn Waa’il, al-Aswad Ibn Muṭṭalib, and<br />

Umayyah Ibn Khalaf met the Prophet ﷺ and said to him: ‘O Muḥammad! Come to us! We will worship what<br />

you worship and you should worship what we worship. Let us just co-operate in all our affairs! If what you have<br />

brought is better than what we have, then we would be participating with you (in that goodness), and we would<br />
