the parents. To add insult to injury, many parents actually have
the ancient parenting concept that “children should be seen and
not heard” on top of this. It’s so much easier and comfortable to
have their children be quiet and not get in the way.
This attitude is still quite alive and well in our society…as
amazing as it seems, and it is incredibly damaging.
So few people are raised with the ideal childhood of
unconditional non-judgmental love. These lucky individuals
received proactive parental listening, so, just for the sake of
conversation, let’s assume you’re not part of the 2% experience.
Let’s further assume your parents loved you and did what they
thought was best for you which was often best for them. Let’s
also assume that what they knew about their child-raising was
based on the way they had been raised, which is likely to have
been dysfunctional.
When you look at the way you were raised, and you think about
how your parents must have been raised, I’ll bet you can see a
clear connection between the generations that extend as far up
the family tree you can go.
