Accepting praise:
One of the blocks many people seem to have that is not working
at all well is being able to accept praise and acknowledgement
from other people. Is this you?
This is because people have been trained by their parents or by
society to turn praise aside. It’s thought of as a cultural way of
being humble or self-critical, of dismissing ourselves as being
less important, less egotistical, more appropriate so we fit in
without being judged as a know-it-all, or selfish, or too smart,
or too clever, or too something.
It is very common for my clients to defect my praising them.
I often have this challenge with clients in the beginning, for
they think that when I am acknowledging the good things I see
in them, I am in some way trying to manipulate them, or I’m
lying.
