Medo-Persia Succeeded Babylon<br />

Just according to <strong>the</strong> prophecy,<br />

Nebuchadnezzar, his son, and his son’s son ruled<br />

<strong>the</strong> kingdom. We will read <strong>the</strong> record in Daniel.<br />

“Belshazzar <strong>the</strong> king made a great feast to a<br />

thousand of his lords, and drank wine before <strong>the</strong><br />

thousand.” And he commanded to bring in <strong>the</strong> gold<br />

and silver vessels which his grandfa<strong>the</strong>r had taken<br />

of <strong>the</strong> temple of <strong>the</strong> Lord. But while <strong>the</strong> feast was<br />

going on, <strong>the</strong>re came a bloodless hand and wrote<br />

on <strong>the</strong> wall. Belshazzar trembled, and sent for his<br />

wise men to read <strong>the</strong> writing, but no man among<br />

<strong>the</strong>m could read it. Then <strong>the</strong>y told him of a man<br />

who had interpreted a vision for his grandfa<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

He commanded him to be sent for, and Daniel was<br />

brought before <strong>the</strong> king. “And this is <strong>the</strong> writing<br />

that was written, Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin.<br />

This is <strong>the</strong> interpretation of <strong>the</strong> thing: Mene; God<br />

hath numbered thy kingdom and finished it. Tekel;<br />

Thou art weighed in <strong>the</strong> balances, and art found<br />

wanting. Peres; Thy kingdom is divided and given<br />

to <strong>the</strong> Medes and Persians. <strong>In</strong> that night was<br />

Belshazzar <strong>the</strong> king of <strong>the</strong> Chaldeans slain. And<br />
