does not rule actions, but He gets behind actions,<br />

and controls actions through thought. They had had<br />

laws in <strong>the</strong> world, <strong>the</strong>y had God’s law in <strong>the</strong> world,<br />

but Jesus Christ came to show what that law meant,<br />

to live it Himself, and to teach it as it meant to<br />

God. And so He explained it as we read Matt. 5,<br />

where Christ Himself, <strong>the</strong> very one who spoke <strong>the</strong><br />

law from Sinai, now, with His divinity veiled in<br />

humanity, comes on <strong>the</strong> mount, and speaks that law<br />

over again, and gives it a spiritual meaning.<br />

“Ye have heard that it was said by <strong>the</strong>m of old<br />

time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill<br />

shall be in danger of <strong>the</strong> judgment; but I say unto<br />

you, That whosoever is angry with his bro<strong>the</strong>r<br />

without a cause shall be in danger of <strong>the</strong><br />

judgment.” This is fur<strong>the</strong>r expressed in 1 John<br />

3:15: “Whosoever hateth his bro<strong>the</strong>r is a<br />

murderer.” “Ye have heard how it was said by<br />

<strong>the</strong>m of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery;<br />

but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a<br />

woman to lust after her hath committed adultery<br />

with her already in his heart.” He fur<strong>the</strong>r explains<br />

that covetousness is idolatry, and this is set forth in<br />
