“Now <strong>the</strong> just shall live by faith; but if any man<br />

draw back, My soul shall have no pleasure in him.”<br />

Heb. 10:38. Here living is <strong>the</strong> leading thought. The<br />

keeping of <strong>the</strong> commandments has been going on,<br />

yet here is a time when Christ seems to delay. If we<br />

live by faith, we shall live through all <strong>the</strong><br />

destruction about us. “A thousand shall fall at thy<br />

side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall<br />

not come nigh <strong>the</strong>e.” “The just shall live by faith.”<br />

“Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see <strong>the</strong><br />

reward of <strong>the</strong> wicked.” That is <strong>the</strong> promise of God<br />

to us, but He also says, “Ye have need of patience.”<br />

“Ye have heard of <strong>the</strong> patience of Job, and have<br />

seen <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> Lord; that <strong>the</strong> Lord is very<br />

pitiful, and of tender mercy.” Job endured,<br />

although he could not see <strong>the</strong> reason for it. But in<br />

that trial of Job God was working out before <strong>the</strong><br />

universe <strong>the</strong> fact that His love can keep a man<br />

when all temporal blessings are taken away.<br />

<strong>In</strong> <strong>the</strong> 18th chapter of Luke we have <strong>the</strong> case of<br />

<strong>the</strong> widow and <strong>the</strong> unjust judge recorded as<br />

instruction for us, with reference to <strong>the</strong> delay of <strong>the</strong><br />
