they that keep the commandments of God.” But it
is just as true with the commandments, that we
must get them before we can keep them, as it is
with the faith. How do we get the
commandments?--In the same way that we get the
faith,--God must give them to us. “For this is the
covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, saith the Lord: I will put My laws
into their mind, and write them in their hearts; and
I will be to them a God, and they shall be to Me a
people.” (Heb. 8:10) He must give us the
commandments before we can keep them, and He
must give them to us in His own way, by writing
them in our hearts. “Forasmuch as ye are
manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ,
ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the
Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but
in the fleshy tables of the heart.” (2 Cor, 3:3) The
commandments were first written with the finger of
God on the tables of stone, thus foreshadowing the
work of writing them on the heart by the Spirit of
God. Compare two scriptures: “But if I cast out
devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of
God is come unto you.” “But if I with the finger of
