HEART OF GUERNSEY<br />
MILLIE WITH LILY JAMES WEARING THE<br />
‘HEART OF GUERNSEY’ PENDANT<br />
The inspiration for the ‘Heart of<br />
Guernsey’ came from Jeff Fox’s<br />
daughter, Emilia (Jeff is a Partner at<br />
Ray & Scott). ‘Millie’ puts her heart<br />
into everything she does, when<br />
her Mum read parts from the book<br />
‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato<br />
Peel Pie Society’ and said the<br />
filmmakers were looking for a little<br />
girl, for the part of ‘Kit’ and were<br />
auditioning in Guernsey in 2012.<br />
Out of approximately 200 children,<br />
aged between 4-6 years old,<br />
Millie was selected for a further<br />
audition and excitedly received<br />
part of the script in the post.<br />
Regrettably Kate Winslet<br />
(the lead role actress at the<br />
time), had other commitments<br />
and the film was shelved.<br />
Roll forward to 2018 and<br />
the most incredible film was<br />
released and a real ‘love song’<br />
to our island is created.<br />
Hearing Lily James on various<br />
TV shows, prior to her visit to the<br />
Guernsey for the premiere, she<br />
was so genuinely overcome by<br />
emotion from the book and really<br />
had put ‘her heart’ into the film.<br />
Millie and her Dad were keen to<br />
reward this dedication and both<br />
sat and discussed a ‘heart inside<br />
an island’ design that could be<br />
relevant to anyone, who puts their<br />
heart into our beautiful island.<br />
Diamonds are a girls’ best<br />
friend, so a sketch of the outline<br />
of our coastline set with brilliant<br />
cut diamonds was born. The<br />
heart decided upon for ‘Lily’ was<br />
a diamond, set in platinum.<br />
With Millie’s copy of the book,<br />
her script and a gift-wrapped<br />
box, they headed to The Old<br />
Government House Hotel,<br />
hoping to see Miss James.<br />
Patience is a virtue and some<br />
hours later Millie finally met<br />
Lily, it could have been Kit<br />
and Juliet, the natural warmth<br />
and glow shown by Lily was<br />
truly something to behold.<br />
Script and book autographed,<br />
Lily rushed back to her room,<br />
to proudly change into her<br />
‘Guernsey’ jumper and to put on<br />
her ‘Heart of Guernsey’ pendant.<br />
Returning to thank Millie,<br />
posed for photos and chatted<br />
again, telling us how much she<br />
loved her welcome and our little<br />
island, she has come to love.<br />
