FOOD WITH
A VIEW
While London has the Thames, Bristol has its architecture, and
Manchester has fantastic shopping, the island of Guernsey has its own
special attraction….the crystal clear sea lapping at its shores.
Whether you’re visiting Guernsey
or are lucky enough to call the
island home, looking at the sea
never gets dull. The owners
of La Reunion restaurant on
Guernsey’s beautiful west coast
have taken that fact and developed
their stunning restaurant
around what are probably
the island’s best sea views.
Raised above Cobo Bay, the
restaurant provides diners with
an elevated and uninterrupted
view of Guernsey’s west coast
with its white sandy beaches and
brilliant blue sea. It just so happens
that this stretch of coastline is
renowned for producing jawdropping
sunsets as well, so an
evening spent at La Reunion
watching the sun setting is an
opportunity not to be missed.
While the views out of the
windows never disappoint, what’s
on offer inside is also pretty
remarkable. The décor is on
the stylish side of quirky. Citrus
yellow and grey are the overriding
colours with the occasional
splash of turquoise. Subtle halo
lighting above the tables tones
down the bright colours in the
evening for a more sophisticated
ambience. Mosaic-style tiling
in one section of the restaurant
contrasts perfectly with the dark
wood flooring and carpet of the
main seating area. The marble
bar is lit by mixed industrial-style
filament lighting hanging from
above, making the bar worth a
visit even if you aren’t drinking!
That said, to visit La Reunion
and not sample at least one of
their huge range of drinks would
be a crime. A mere glance at this
magnificent bar lets you know
their beverages mean business.
The bar has prime position,
and demands your attention as
you enter the restaurant. It is a
beautifully open area with plush
leather stools and armchairs
and has a stunning terrace
overlooking the sea. Perfect
for a pre or post-meal drink.
So the views are world class,
the décor is divine, and the drinks
options are extensive, but this
is a restaurant after all, so how
is the food? It’s probably best
described as classic British
food with an elegant twist.
