It’s one of the most recognisable<br />
landmarks on the north Norfolk<br />
coast, but not many people<br />
know that you can actually<br />
stay at Cley Windmill.<br />
Dating from the early 18th<br />
century, the windmill has been<br />
lovingly converted into a bed and<br />
breakfast with the old stables<br />
and boathouse providing extra<br />
bedrooms, and the Dovecote<br />
available as a self-catering option.<br />
The village of Holt has a lot<br />
of character and is home to<br />
some fantastic shops, cafes and<br />
restaurants. Cley Windmill is within<br />
walking distance of the village<br />
and offers incredible views over<br />
the sea, the stunning salt marshes<br />
and Cley Bird Sanctuary (named<br />
as Sir David Attenborough’s top<br />
spot in Britain for wildlife!) as well<br />
as Blakeney Harbour. There is also<br />
a beautiful walled garden at Cley<br />
Windmill which leads down to the<br />
River Glaven, providing a tranquil<br />
area to sit and admire the reeds.<br />
The interior of the windmill is<br />
just as impressive as the views<br />
outside. The roaring open fire is<br />
surrounded by cosy sofas and<br />
magnificent antique furniture<br />
in the circular sitting room on<br />
the ground floor. The beamed<br />
dining room is part of the original<br />
warehouse that was constructed<br />
in 1713 and is full of charm.<br />
Holt is just 20 miles from<br />
Norwich Airport.<br />

starting at £159 per night.<br />
