En Voyage MAKING MEMORIES For a small island Guernsey packs a punch when it comes to things to see and do. Lose yourself in its captivating beauty and share the whole experience with your family. Without a doubt, Guernsey’s glorious beaches are one of its biggest draw in the summer months – and actually, they make a great day out in colder months too. It’s all about appropriate attire, they say. With fewer than 27 beaches to choose from, your family can take their pick from small and secluded or large and panoramic, sandy or pebbly, dogs allowed or not. You can even be led by whether there’s a kiosk nearby – because what’s a trip to the beach without an ice cream? For a little more than sand between your toes and rock pooling, the jetty at Les Ammareurs in the Vale is a great spot for pier jumping at high tide and probably holds a fond place in the childhood of most Guerns. The water slowly rises level with (and often above) the pier, allowing youngsters (and adults) to paddle and swim as the tide changes. There’s also a playground on-site as well as that soughtafter ice-cream van. At the end of the day, admire the sunset at Cobo with a bag of fish and chips or introduce the children to a beach BBQ with locally sourced produce. Either way, on a glorious summer’s eve you’ll find the island’s beaches a hive of family activity and memory making well into the evening. Take in a little nature with a wander around the stunning south coast cliffs. Stop at the Jerbourg Hotel’s Cliff Top Coffee Shop and treat the little ones to one of their delicious unicorn milkshakes. And while they’re enjoying that, why not try one of the glorious homemade cakes and pastries? You are on holiday after all. Alternatively, start with a visit to the Guernsey Aquarium (which underwent a major refurbishment last year) and walk the cliffs along to Fermain where you can paddle in the pebbly bay and savour the flavours of internationallyrecognised Fermain Beach Café. Walking back to where you began, cool off in La Vallette Bathing Pools – Guernsey’s unique Victorian outdoor swimming pools. You’ll need food next and when it comes to family-friendly restaurants, you can’t beat Crabby Jack’s.
