FURTHER ALONG THE COAST LIES COBO BAY
– A REAL JEWEL IN GUERNSEY’S CROWN
Heading back up the west
coast and Rocquaine Bay is
the place to be on 4 August.
The Rocquaine Regatta is a
fun-filled day with junior sand
events such as apple bobbing,
wheelbarrow races, pick a pint
of winkles and the three-legged
race as well as the slightly bizarre
‘Wife Carrying’ event (which
does what it says on the tin).
Unusual boat races take place
throughout the day whilst
pavement artists, the Guernsey
Majorettes and live music add
to the atmosphere, and an
evening BBQ will conclude
a fantastic day of fun.
On the day, you can also
take advantage of free entry
to the fascinating Fort Grey
Shipwreck Museum, so you can
combine your family day out
with some nautical history.
Sticking on the west coast,
the West Show takes place at
L’Eree Aerodrome on 15-16
August. Celebrated for more
than 100 years, agricultural
and horticultural traditions are
on show alongside fairground
rides, entertainment, stalls,
refreshment and much more.
Further along the coast lies Cobo
Bay – a real jewel in Guernsey’s
crown. Famed for its golden sand
and stunning sunsets, it is without
a doubt one of the most popular
beaches on the island with both
locals and tourists. In recent years
the Cobo Bay Hotel’s Balcony
Gigs - live music from sensational
tribute acts on the hotel’s terrace
– have become a massive draw
on sun-soaked days. Due to the
popularity of these events, a
section of the Cobo Coast Road
is closed off and a real carnival
atmosphere spills out onto the
asphalt as revellers enjoy the
music, sunshine and celebration.
With music from 3pm and an
after-party until midnight, this
year you can enjoy the sound
of Kings of Leon on 5 August
and The Killers supported by a
tribute to U2 on 26 August.
