Guernsey is a sensational destination at any time
of year - the small island packs a punch when
it comes to food, culture, heritage and beaches
– but it is during the summer months that the
island really comes alive. The whole place is
awash with things to do for young and old(er).
Let’s start in town.
On certain Sundays between May and August,
St Peter Port seafront is closed to traffic and transformed
into a pedestrianised sea of market stalls and al fresco
dining. Each Seafront Sunday has a different theme
such as Motorsport on 22 July – with stunt riders and
vehicles on show – and the Waterfront Marathon on
26 August. There’s also Fresh Fridays every week in
Market Square where you can find a tasty selection of
Guernsey products and a wide range of street food.
Standing proud at the harbour entrance is
800-year-old Castle Cornet. With its museums, gun
emplacements, noon-day cannon and fancy-dress
costumes to boot, the castle is a hive of activity most
days but throughout the summer there are a number
of special events that you may want to take note of.
