GUERNSEY SPORTS COMMISSION
BENEFITS FROM APPLEBY SPONSORSHIP
The Guernsey Sports Commission
has hosted a Tri Golf Festival
open to children in Year 4 for the
sixth year in a row. The Appleby
sponsored event encouraged
children, who had previously
experienced the sport in schools PE
programmes, to attend the festival
to give golf another go. 23 children
from eight different schools took
up the free opportunity and a
number of children have already
taken the next step to playing in the
community.
Sponsoring this event forms part
of Appleby’s wider community
partnership to support golf
development within Guernsey.
Appleby Group Partner Alison
MacKrill said, ‘We are proud to
be involved with the Tri Golf
Festival. Appleby have sponsored
the L’Ancresse Open and the
Ladies Pairs competition at La
Grande Mare for a number of
years. Having the opportunity to
work with the Guernsey Sports
Commission to support and
encourage schoolchildren to try
golf, have fun and hopefully take
up the game is another key part
of Appleby’s involvement with golf
development in Guernsey.’
‘REMEMBER AND SMILE’
PATOIS JEWELLERY IS
INSPIRED BY GEORGIE
Guernsey jeweller Martin & Martin
has introduced a new range to
its renowned Patois collection,
inspired by a new local charity, the
Smile for Georgie Foundation.
The jewellery features a rose, which
is the emblem of the foundation,
and the legend ‘I faot s’en r’maette
et sourire’, patois which translates
into ‘Remember and Smile’.
A commission from each item sold
will be donated to the foundation.
The charity was established in memory
of Georgie Le Prevost, who died
tragically in a road traffic accident last
July, and aims to make a difference
in the Guernsey community through
carrying out small acts of kindness.
Emma Pang of Martin & Martin said:
‘We were looking to partner with
a local charity and we remember
Georgie who was a customer. The
concept is that people will want to buy
the jewellery as a celebration of an
important personal event in their lives.
