The Guernsey Flag American
Football League continues to build
on previous years’ success and has
returned for another season, with
support from Trust Corporation
International.
American Flag Football caters
to all levels and abilities as it is a
non-contact version of American
Football, played in a 5-a-side
format over two 20-minute halves.
Trust Corporation International’s
support means that open training
sessions can continue to take place
at North Field in St Sampson’s and
the committee can stage other
events such as a Super Bowl party
and a summer beach tournament.
Matt Jackson, Chair of Guernsey
Flag American Football, said: ‘Flag
American Football is a growing
sport so we want it to be as cheap
as possible for members and
newcomers; the sponsorship from
Trust Corporation International
has helped us to do this so we’re
grateful to them for their support.’

and, in particular, Flag American

MORE FUN ON THE RUN FOR GUERNSEY
MIND WITH NEW SPONSORSHIP PARTNER
One of Guernsey’s most popular
inclusive running events has been
given a boost thanks to a new
sponsorship partnership with
Investec.
The three-year agreement will
help cover the costs of running the
event and providing participants
with t-shirts, medals and ‘goodie
bags’ to heighten their enjoyment of
taking part. The support means that
Guernsey Mind can focus on raising
funds for its work through runners’
entry fees and personal sponsorship.
Laurel Le Tocq of Guernsey Mind
said, ‘We are delighted to welcome
Investec as the new sponsor of
the Fun Run. We were looking for
a partner who would be proactive
and creative in helping us to grow
the event to its full potential, and the
team at Investec is already getting
behind our vision to become the
largest Fun Run held in Guernsey.’
Nick Leale of Investec added, ‘The
link between mental and physical
health is well proven. We were
delighted to be approached by
Guernsey Mind and are keen to
support the Fun Run because it
reflects our belief in creating a work
environment that supports the
wellbeing of our people. We are
looking forward to being involved
in developing the event over the

The Investec Guernsey Mind Fun
Run is being held on 9 September
starting at 09:30 from KGV.

EQUIPMENT FOR VISUALLY
IMPAIRED SCHOOL
CHILDREN
Visually impaired school children
will have access to a new-state-of
the-art reading magnifier thanks to
charity efforts of staff at facilities
management company AFM.
Guernsey Blind Association
purchased the reading magnifier
- Eschenbach Visolux Digital
HD - following a generous
donation from its charity partner
for 2018, AFM. The product will
be used by Guernsey’s Vision
Sensory Teacher, Nancy DeVoe,
to assist local visually impaired
schoolchildren when reading.
Nancy is in charge of all vision
impairment needs for Education.
The Eschenbach Visolux Digital HD
has a large 7-inch screen, anti-glare
coating and HD camera. It has a
user-friendly scroll function and
base support, allowing the user
to write underneath the screen.
Debbie Clarke, Vision Support
Advisor at Guernsey Blind
Association, said: ‘The product will
make a huge difference to children’s
learning as it not only allows the user
to be part of the classroom but also
to maintain independence. We’re
very grateful to the staff at AFM for
helping us purchase something
tangible that will significantly
contribute to the education of
some of our local schoolchildren.’
Enthused staff at AFM raised
funds for the new piece of
equipment by taking part in a
weight loss challenge, Loud Shirt
Day, Grand National sweepstake
and multiple cake sales.
AFM’s Operations Manager, Martyn
Pipet, said: ‘Our staff did a fantastic
job of coming up with ideas to
fundraise and get everyone involved
to raise as much money as possible.
As a company, we are delighted that
the money raised so far for Guernsey
Blind Association will be used to
help improve the education and
learning of several school children.’
AFM pledged to support Guernsey
Blind Association at the beginning
of 2018 by providing both
practical and fundraising help.
The company also aims to raise
awareness of the charity and its
variety of services for the local
community, including practical
and emotional family support.
