GUERNSEY LITERARY FESTIVAL
Butterfield proudly sponsored guest speaker Anand Menon at the annual
Guernsey Literary Festival, which is fast becoming known as one of the
island’s greatest arts events.
Anand Menon is Professor of European Politics and Foreign Affairs at Kings
College and directs the Economic and Social Research Council Initiative,
‘The UK in a Changing Europe’. He has authored a number of books on
contemporary Europe. His talk at the Guernsey Literary Festival focused on his
book, ‘Brexit and British Politics’, co-authored by Geoffrey Evans, which takes a
close look at the reasons why Britain voted Brexit and where we go from here.

Guernsey Literary Festival, which is such an important
event in Guernsey, promoting literacy and inspiring
readers of all ages. As an established writer and
frequent commentator in national and international
media on contemporary politics, Anand was a
fascinating addition to the festival, discussing a current
political topic which divides opinions worldwide.’
Anand Menon said: ‘What a wonderful event.

brilliant presentations and discussions, and held in
an island that’s well worth a visit in its own right.’
The Guernsey Literary Festival has grown from strength to strength in
the last five years, attracting a number of high quality speakers. It was the
festival’s sixth event and it had a record attendance of more than 5,000
at ticketed events, which is a 34% increase on last year’s event. Anand
Menon was one of 40 prominent speakers over the course of the fourday
festival. Other speakers included BBC’s Evan Davis and Jenni Murray,
novelists Rachel Joyce and Ruth Hogan, TV doctor Rangan Chatterjee and
inspirational speaker Katie Piper.
