The city council’s Long Term Plan earmarked $1.2 million to upgrade the Clarence St and Blenheim Rd intersection between 2021 and 2023. It also allocated $356,000 to upgrade the Clarence St and Riccarton Rd intersection between 2020 and 2022. The city council and New Zealand Transport Agency ranked the Clarence St and Riccarton Rd intersection the sixth most dangerous in the city last year, while Clarence St and Blenheim Rd was ranked 10th. Safety improvements have also been confirmed for the Ilam, Middleton and Riccarton Rds intersection – the fourth most dangerous – in the upcoming financial year. St Albans Park work delayed, over budget Upgrades to St Albans Park may not be complete until early next year and will cost $160,000 more than expected. The cost of the project has increased to $2.1 million. Wet weather has pushed the completion date out to late December or early January. Timeball set to drop again today The Lyttelton Timeball will drop once again when the mast is installed at 10am today. Heritage NZ has been overseeing the $3 million restoration, which started in July last year. The structure will be officially opened to the public in spring. Black Cat to remove wharf structures Black Cat Cruises will be instructed to remove all non-authorised structures from outside its premises on Akaroa wharf. On Monday the Banks Peninsula Community Board voted to for all non-consented structures to be removed within three months – including seating, disability access ramp, canopies and supporting poles.
