• Nii Offei III, Chief of Koklobite
NII OFFEI III, the Chief
of Koklobite, has denied
media reports suggesting
that he is not a recognised
chief and the fact that he
has sold plots of land at Koklobite to
two land developers.
The chief of the fishing community
in the Ga South Municipality in the
Greater Accra Region asserted that the
allegations were a calculated attempt by
his accusers to discredit him, adding, "my
hands are clean."
Nii Offei called on Ghanaians to disregard
the accusations and treat them
with the deserving contempt.
He was reacting to the recent allegations
by the Nii Arday Nkpa family of
Koklobite that he was parading himself
as the chief of the Koklobite community
and defrauding with false pretence by
selling land belonging to the Nii Arday
Nkpa family.
The report indicated that Nii Offei is
not recognised as a chief as he has not
been traditionally and customarily installed
as the chief of Koklobite, stressing
that he (Nii Offei) did not have any
capacity and locus to sell lands at Koklobite
to anybody.
The report said the move by Nii Offei
to sell lands to unsuspecting Ghanaians
amounted to "complete fraud."
But in a quick rebuttal, Nii Offei described
the allegations levelled against
him as "completely baseless and unfounded,"
adding that they were calculated
attempts to soil his chieftaincy and
traditional reputation.
He pointed out that the sale of a
piece of land at Koklobite to two land
developers was legally and genuinely
done by the members of Koklobite Stool
Council with the knowledge of Nii
Arday Npka and Nii Offei families, the
two families who are owners of the Koklobite
lands.
"So we do not know where the allegation
of fraud and illegality is coming
from.
"We want to tell Mr Daniel Nii Arday
Nkpa Tagoe and his followers
to take a second
look at their stance against
us. Because we have done
what is legitimate and
proper to the Koklobite
Stool Council, which is a
legally constituted chieftaincy
body,” he stated.
Touching on the traditional
and historical antecedent
that led to his
installation as the chief of
the area, Nii Offei noted
that "I was legally and traditional
installed in 2015
by the principal kingmaker
of Koklobite, Nii Arday
Ansah II, with the support
of the credited kingmaker
of Plenor in Accra,
Nii Srasraku, to ascend
the throne to succeed my
father, Nii Offei II, who
died in 2010.”
According to Nii
Offei III, after his installation
he was officially inducted
into the fold of the Nglenshie
Alata Traditional Council by the then
Paramount chief of James Town,
Obrempong Nii Kojo Ababio, which
makes his position legitimate.
