HARMONY:
Why communication is key to
wealth preservation
Family conversations about finances can feel
awkward and are often avoided. But transparent,
timely communication between generations is
vital for preserving wealth and family businesses.
1. The cost of silence
When you don’t communicate about your vision for
your family’s future wealth, it’s possible that your
children will build their own expectations. A lack of
communication around wealth succession plans can
lead to your children or grandchildren perceiving
that the family has not fulfilled their obligations to
them – whether that’s true or not.
This kind of emotional tension can severely
impact wealth preservation, as plans for your
family’s finances can become fractured. Because of
this, it’s important to talk to your family about your
wealth and how you’d like to have it handled in the
future. Starting the conversation now means your
children will be prepared to manage your family’s
wealth in the future.
2. Overcoming fears
Planning for the future is a tough topic – not only
because it causes us to reflect on our own mortality
and our own wealth journey, but because it can also
require technical, legal and fiscal knowledge. Add
to that a cocktail of emotions, including a natural
concern for the well-being of future generations,

and suddenly transparent wealth planning can seem
extremely daunting.
It’s also challenging to find a time to have this
conversation. Often, it’s put off or avoided
altogether. Sometimes, the grown-up conversations
can’t wait until they’re grown up. One way to
approach this is by using a significant life event, like
major birthdays or a child leaving for university, as a
marker for having the discussion.
Before you begin such difficult conversations, it’s
important to have a game plan. Do you know the
purpose of your wealth? Does your vision align with
the visions of your family? Make sure you know
your own wealth plan before speaking with your
potential successors.
3. Sharing plans for preservation
It’s also important to consider your family’s opinions
towards wealth and it’s preservation. A good
starting point is to think on whether they have a
shared interest in continuing the management of
their wealth together.
Before having a more formal “sit down” about
succession planning, instead find the time to speak
to your family to determine how they would
consider managing wealth in the future. Often,
insights into your family’s thoughts on wealth
preservation can be gleaned through informal
conversations with your loved ones.
Consider their thoughts on the future and think
about incorporating aspects of their approach into
your own vision for your future wealth.
4. Vision into action
Once your family’s attitudes towards wealth
preservation are known, put a plan in place to
actively work towards that future vision. Consider
writing it out together to ensure you’re all on the
same page. This plan should not only outline future
wealth preservation goals, but also ways to maintain
the family’s current wealth until it is passed on.

Reaching the
HIGH NOTES
Jo Charrington, Alumni of Godolphin School
and Co-President of Capitol Records tells us
how her love of music was the bedrock for her
stellar rise within the industry
Speaking to Jo in
the boardroom of
Capitol Records,
surrounded by
Grammys, BRITs,
Ivor Novellos and
MOBO awards, you can’t help
but be in awe of this inspirational
woman. Jo has conquered a
largely male-dominated industry
and is responsible for the huge
successes of many of today’s most
recognisable stars. From the likes
of Sam Smith, Paloma Faith,
Olly Murs, JLS, Liam Payne -
the list goes on.
“Growing up I was surrounded
by music. My mother was a
session singer in the 60’s and
toured with people like Roy
Orbison and Lulu. Music was a
big thing at home and we were
always singing and harmonising
and doing things in the local
church. I loved pop music and
had an interest in not just the
artists but I also had a detailed
knowledge of who produced
them as well.”
After university, Jo started to
temp as a secretary knowing she
wanted to work in the industry.
“I bought Music Week, looked
in the classifieds and found a
recruitment company specialising
in music. I went to meet them
and started temping at Music
Box then owned by Virgin.”
Unlike her father whose love
for film was thwarted at an early
age in lieu of a ‘proper career’,
Jo’s parents were determined for
her to follow her dreams, telling
her “if that’s what you want to do
then that’s what you must do and
we will support you.”
From Music Box, Jo moved
to London Records where she
got a permanent job. It was an
inspiring place to work with huge
hits launching from, amongst
others, East 17, Shakespeares
Sister and the Communards. “I
was quite lucky being in the right
place at the right time.” she says.
“It was a formative year for me,
whatever needed doing I did it
and by the end of the year I was
commissioning videos. Drive and
passion had landed me in the
right place.”
In terms of her next career
move, Jo points out, “I wasn’t
thinking what will I do next - I
was just in it and determined
to do the best job I could and
see where it led. From London
Records I then went to Virgin
Records working for Graham

Ball who headed up the
International division and
during the time when Virgin
had Shaggy, Meatloaf and the
Spice Girls – it was an incredibly
exciting year for me.”
Jo then went on to work as
the Exec PA for the President
of BMG, Jeremy Marsh. It was
here that her career really took
off, “Jeremy was affable, positive
and a great person to work for.
I learnt that you could be good
and kind in business and still get
to the top,” she smiles. Whilst
at BMG, Jo recommended her
friends Tattersfield and Raphael
(her current Co-President) to
Jeremy who on her advice, gave
them their own label to produce.
This prompted Jo to make the
life changing decision to put her
hand up and say, “what about
my career – what will you do
for me?” After this Jo went onto
manage her own artists – and the
rest as they say is history!
With regard to internships,

Jo does take on a few students
but warns, “you’ve got to kiss
a lot of frogs to find the good
ones.” Her advice is “turn up on
time, smile and make cups of tea.
Do that and you’ll do really well.
If you can do the basics, are nice
and can get stuff done then you’ll
be fine.

I think it’s that simple. It’s like
signing artists – our percentage
is one in three and the average is
one in 40 that actually go on to
be successful.”
So with the odds seemingly
stacked against them, just how
does Jo find the next up-andcoming
super star? “There is a
point where we meet them and
we just know that we want to
sign them; it’s very instinctive.
It’s based on lots of failures,
just as much as successes, and
it’s the chemistry. Yes, you’ve
got to have talent but you need
the connection with them. Olly
(Murs) is an example - the
minute I met him I knew I had
to sign him.”
We then ask Jo if there is a
career path for budding artists
to follow before approaching a
record label, “there is a process
which is important for the artists
to go through; almost like a
filtration. If someone sends me
an email saying ‘Can I send

you my songs?’ the answer is no
you can’t! They need to have a
manager, a lawyer, done some
gigs and written some songs. ”
However, in today’s digital
age, it seems that almost anyone
can reach huge global audiences
instantly by posting on social
media. This is something Jo, as
an industry professional, has
mixed views on, “there are more
opportunities to post your own
music now which is great. It is
more of a meritocracy as there
are less gate keepers than there
used to be, which means there’s
more music out there. It makes it
harder to find the real gems.”
“The digital age is fascinating
and we are still figuring it out.
We had a way of breaking records

which we’ve been doing for a
long time now so learning the
new world is quite a big process.
Our kids are going to have a
different outlook, will be more
savvy than our generation and
not as naive as we think. It’s great
that the kids are into something
and they have so much choice as
there are no genre boundaries.”
So what advice can she give to
the next generation aspiring to
work within the music industry?
“Don’t rush in too young. The
opportunities will still be there
if you are the right person for
them. Keep moving forward with
everything you do. Be optimistic.
If you get knocked back try
again. Always ask for pointers,
learn from your mistakes and
don’t be defensive. Take things
on the chin, say sorry and when
you deserve credit make sure
you get it and enjoy it - don’t
be embarrassed about it. This is
especially true for women who
are far worse at accepting credit.
Work with people you can learn
from and the minute you are not
learning, move on.”
Finally, we ask Jo what other
career mountains are left for her
to climb: “America! I need to get
my kids through A Levels and
really establish Sam (Smith) as a
global artist. I like to think that
I’m always moving forward so
long term it has to be the USA!”

So how did you get started?
Starting Lucy’s Dressings from
my kitchen meant burning the
midnight candle! After I’d put the
children to bed, I would sterilise
my kitchen, put my hairnet on
and lug barrels of oil up from
my basement. There was nothing
glamorous about it.
Where did the idea come from?
Ever since I was a child I’ve
loved making dressings and been
fascinated by the challenge of
getting the balance of flavours
just right. So, I set about creating
a dressings company.
Your biggest challenge?
Growing a brand that no one’s
heard of and resisting the
temptation to reduce the quality
of the produce, in order to put
yourself in the mainstream. If
the products don’t hold true to
original values, you have nothing.
How do you juggle family life
with work?
Badly! I find it really hard juggling
home and family life, I frequently
feel I’m not doing enough
especially when I

miss one of the children playing
in a match, or I haven’t got
enough achieved in my working
day. The truth is I need to be
doing more of both. Most of
my friends that work either
part time or full time feel the
same way. But you can only do
what you can do in a day and it’s
important to try and keep some
perspective on life and have
some fun on the way.
How has the company changed
over time?
The business started as a hobby,
which then became serious when
we got ourselves into Selfridges.
In the last 18 months things have
been cranked up as we’re now
stocked in Waitrose nationally.
We’re also working with some
fantastic restaurant groups,
which is very exciting.
What’s your top dressing pick
for the summer?
My top dressing for summer is
the Zesty Mayo, it’s just delicious
on so much more than salad - we
love it with asparagus, salmon,
new potatoes, rice or as a dip
for sourdough. It’s not a rich and
creamy dressing - it’s tangy and
zingy so it compliments so many
ingredients at this time of year.

“Children will have spent one year sitting in front of a screen
by the time they are seven” says Osteopath Nick Potter.
A worrying statistic he explains how to change…
W
e are guardians of our children’s
futures and we all want the best
for them. They have a thirst
for knowledge and we strive to
give them all the advantages we can to compete
in a constantly changing and competitive world.
However, as the environment in which they have to
perform gets ever more demanding, we have to help
them to look after their physical wellbeing. All too
often children see their bodies as a means of getting
their brains to lessons and chill-out time involves
very little activity.
Physical therapists are reporting an ever
increasing rise in the number of children presenting
to clinics with neck and back pain as well as
headaches and tooth-clenching. ‘School headache’
is usually of postural origin. Sadly, we are even
seeing teenagers with disc problems. We are all
living longer and this poses a real problem for
future health.
Long school days, pressure to succeed, carrying
heavy books on one shoulder, sitting in poor
postures and being glued to smart phones and
laptops is taking its toll.

They are ‘netizens’ like never before. TV time
has been replaced by Netflix on laptops and
iPads, lying on sofas and beds. The influx of
technology into their work and play has reduced
outdoor activity tenfold. Instagram and Snapchat
deliver thousands of random messages which are
sometimes bewildering, often distorted and mostly
plain wrong about life and the world. Research has
shown that a ‘like’ on Facebook or Instagram is the
equivalent release of addictive brain chemicals to
two cigarettes.
Although some of the neck and back pain they
suffer with is from sport and poor posture, most of
the muscle tension which develops in their bodies is
from pent up stress which accumulates.
The muscles tighten as a ‘fright-flight’ response
and ultimately cause pain. Back pain, headaches
and their prevention needs a holistic approach. One
of the best ways to get them to release their muscles
is to check their breathing.
Breath-holding, sighing and yawning are all signs
of hyperventilation. This is erratic breathing which

is too quick and too shallow, done by
heaving the neck and chest muscles instead of
from the diaphragm. The rest of the time they just
hold their breath. Interestingly, breathing poorly
reduces your ability to think and learn by 25-30%.
Muscle tension develops throughout the body and
quickly causes potential for pain.
Generally, schools have very good coaching
but usually poor conditioning support. Simple
equipment like foam rollers to release and stretch
leg muscles, as well as mandatory stretching after
training or matches, would prevent a lot of injury.

Children who are talented are very often put
into several different teams with varying skill

“Every child should
learn to read music at the
same time that they learn
to read words.”
Sir Tim Rice alumni of Aldwickbury School, St Albans School and
Lancing College, tells us about his school days and the influence they
had on his extraordinary career.
Where to start with the legend that is Sir Tim
Rice? He is part of our cultural and musical
heritage and puts the Great into Britain. His
awards are almost too long to list, from Academy,
Tony, and Grammy Awards to Golden Globes.
Knighted by the Queen in 1994, a star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame, an inductee into the
Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, a Disney Legend
recipient, Fellow of the British Academy of
Songwriters, Composers and Authors – is there
nothing this man can’t do?! He even plays cricket…
Were you writing lyrics and composing from an
early age?
Never composed music until I was 19 and then only
some simple pop song tunes. I was always keen to
write funny (allegedly) verse and prose from quite
an early age – maybe eight or so.
When were you first drawn to music and did
school play a role in this?
I always liked singing at prep school (Aldwickbury)
and loved many hymns and traditional songs we
learned there from the age of five onwards.

Pop and rock music hit me when I was
11 (Elvis, Tommy Steele, Buddy Holly, The Everly
Brothers) and from there, it was no looking back.
What were you like at school?
Academically good, pretty average at sport (but
quite keen) with a pathetic desire to be popular.
Was there a teacher who particularly inspired you?
Not really. Quite a variety. Brian Chidell was a
great maths teacher at prep school. Harry Guest
and Roger Lockyer at Lancing were influential –
modern languages and history respectively.
If you could change anything in schools about
how music is taught, what would it be?
Every child should learn to read music at the same
time that they learn to read words.
What advice would you give to aspiring young
musicians or lyricists?
Keep at it despite setbacks. Don’t panic if you’re not
talented in that department. Do something just as
important backstage. Make your first musical funny
rather than serious. Plenty of time for angst later.
Make it short and get it on live anywhere – school
productions fine; don’t rely on demo recordings.
Which musical are you most proud of and why?
Not sure. Joseph will last the longest (good news for
my grandchildren).
Which musical do you wish you had written?
West Side Story or My Fair Lady (words only of
course). Anything by W.S. Gilbert
Which of your awards means the most to you?
None really. Maybe my recent Pointless trophy.
What was your first big career break?
Meeting Andrew (Lloyd Webber) in
April 1965.

life – is there
one moment
that really
stands out?

Which piece of musical theatre are you most
proud of and why?
I think as a theatrical presentation the original Evita
on stage in the West End was hard to top. Nothing
wrong with the production but of course not much
of it was to do with me – just the words.
Outside of music what are your passions?
Cricket, history, travel…
Who is your cricketing hero?
As a schoolboy two guys called Bill Edrich and
Denis Compton. I admire quite a few current
players but no one rave fave.
What is your personal motto for life?
Make new friends but stick to old. One is silver, the
other gold.
Is there any one individual who has inspired you
the most?
Maybe my dad. Elvis? (Not the same chap)
Any more dreams still to realise?
I’ve got to the stage where earlier dreams like
swimming the channel or going to the moon won’t
happen. I’d like to write a play. Not sure I could.
The three tracks you’d take to a Desert Island?
I’d take something classical but three of my all
time favourite popular songs are Runaway by Del
Shannon, All I Have To Do Is Dream by the Everly
Brothers and The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel.
But ask me again tomorrow and I’d name three
different ones.

Singer, songwriter and actress, Pixie Lott has done it all. We ask the
talented Pixie, alumni from Italia Conti, how she’s achieved so much
At only 27, Pixie is already a household name
with a plethora of awards and achievements. Three
UK number-ones, over four million tracks sold,
numerous worldwide tours, 1.6 million albums sold
and she’s written songs for some of today’s biggest
stars including Selena Gomez. She’s collaborated
with acclaimed artists including Stevie Wonder
and John Legend, her songs have been used within
soundtracks to countless films and she has in excess
of 210 million YouTube views. A four-time BRIT
Award nominee and winner of two MTV European
Music Awards; is there nothing she can’t do?
How did you get your nickname Pixie?
When I was born I was premature - my mum said
that I looked like a little Pixie!
At what age did you realise music was for you?
Probably around the age of two when I wanted to
sing at a family party “Don’t Be A Stranger” by Dina
Carroll. My parents also had music playing around
the house which I’m sure was a big influence in why
I loved music so young.
Tell us about your time at Italia Conti Academy
and the influence it had on your career?
I started at an Associate School of Italia Conti
in Chislehurst, Kent at five and loved it so
much that my parents applied for me to go
for a scholarship audition at the main Academy,
London. I was delighted that I got it as that enabled
me to go! Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts was
where it all began for me and gave me an amazing
foundation for the entertainment industry. I’ve
since set up my own Italia Conti Associate school
with my sister and mum; Pixie Lott’s Italia Conti
Associate School Chelmsford.
I’ll be running a Summer School this year
working towards a show from 28th Aug - 1st Sept.

My mum! She is amazing and brings happiness to so

something my dad always said to me! I still go by his
motto... “Fail to prepare, then prepare to fail”!
Did you have one momentous career break?
When my first single ‘Mama Do’ went to number
one when I was 18.
Of the many songs you have written, which are you
most proud of ?
I do love them all but probably my co-writes ‘Cry
Me Out’ written with Phil Thornalley, Mads Hauge
and Colin Campsie and ‘Broken Arrow’ written
with Toby Gad and Ruth-Anne Cunningham.
Which acting role did you enjoy the most and why?
Holly Golightly from ‘Breakfast At Tiffanys’; the
book version written by Truman Capote, which is
much darker than the movie with Audrey Hepburn.
What advice would you give to all aspiring singers,
songwriters and actresses?
To go for every opportunity possible. Auditions,
meetings, open mic nights etc - even the small ones
because you never know what it could lead to! Every
little stepping stone helps. Also to never give up
on your dreams and to just keep showing up. If you
make sure you are ticking every box then you give
yourself the best opportunity.
You can dance as well! How much fun was Strictly?
I enjoyed learning completely new styles of dance.
Latin and Ballroom are so different to what I
have learnt in Ballet, Tap, Modern and Jazz. Trent
Whiddon, my professional partner is an amazing
choreographer and teacher - we had so much fun
and will be friends for life.
What did you enjoy most about being a judge on
The Voice Kids 2017?
Working with the kids! They were so inspiring and
it was beautiful to see them doing what they love.
It reminded me of performing as a kid and to never
lose that joy and why I did music in the first place.
I’m presently filming The Voice Kids 2018 with
Will.i.am and Danny Jones and can’t wait for

When does The Voice Kids 2018 start?
The new series will be on for a week in July every
night with the live final on the 21st July on ITV.
Do you have any hobbies and how do you find the
time to fit these in?
I love eating out, takeaways and watching a movie
on the sofa. I also love skiing, yoga, meditation and
dancing. I do find it difficult fitting these in and
often go long periods without finding any time!
When is new music coming out?
I am writing in LA at the moment and have a new
single due out around The Voice Kids this summer.

music this summer at quite a few festivals and I
hope to see some of you there!
What dreams for the future?
I cannot wait to release my new music - it’s my
favourite stuff I’ve ever done! My dream is to get
it out to as many people as possible and to release

that helps people and relates to them. I also want to
do bigger tours, gain more experience in tv and film
and to carry on working with young performers!

MR RIDGELEY
Andrew Ridgeley was one half of Wham! – the biggest UK pop duo
during the eighties and George Michael’s closest friend. We ask the artist,
whose talented song writing sold six million copies of Careless Whisper
alone, how it all began…
Think back to the 80’s and I’ll defy anyone not to
burst into a spontaneous rendition of a Wham!
track. Both Andrew and George were icons of their
age, defining the spirit and pop culture of that
creative generation.
Andrew grew up in Hertfordshire, and attended
Bushey Meads School. His mother was a teacher at
the primary school and when George enrolled, they
became great friends. Sharing a love of music and a
desire to perform, they formed a band and made a
demo tape (in just 10 minutes!) in Andrew’s living
room to send on to record companies with the hope
of getting a record deal.
They were picked up by Innervision Records and
Wham! went on to enjoy worldwide success from
1982 to 1986 selling more than 30 million records
and being the first band to play in China placing
Wham! firmly centre stage on a global scale.

When did you realise that music was your thing?
When I was nine or 10 years old, I recall that music
was something I found absorbing and fascinating.
Did you learn an instrument at school?
I was steered towards learning the recorder, with
little success!
Was there one particular teacher or person who
inspired you the most?
It wasn’t so much people, rather the manifestations
of their creativity that I found inspiring.
When did you and George decide to form a band?
At around 14 years old, but it was put off until we’d
sat our O-levels because George was under pressure
from his family to concentrate on his academic
prospects. So it was with no little persuasion and
endless badgering from me, that I finally persuaded
him to form our first band in 1979!
Why did you call yourselves Wham!?
We lifted the name, from the song Wham Rap!
What was your big career break?
Saturday Superstore October 1982.
Which of your songs means the most to you?
Careless Whisper.
As a co-writer of Careless Whisper what was the
inspiration behind this song?
The chord sequence and signature saxophone
melody, lent itself to a plaintive kind of lament.
What do you miss most about George?
The bond that only childhood friends ever make.
What would you say is George’s legacy and what
would be yours?
George’s legacy is and will always be his music.
Mine is a work in progress!
What advice would you give to aspiring artists?
Open your mind!
How much is talent and how much is luck?
I’d say it’s 50/50!
Current favourite artist?
Justin Hurwitz who wrote the oscar-winning score
for
LaLa Land.
What are your passions outside of music?
I enjoy writing verse.
Any mountains still to climb?
Still climbing the first one!

SASHA’S EASTER CAKE
COOK TIME: 30–35 minutes, plus cooling
Ingredients
For the cake:
• 200g (8oz) caster sugar
• 200g (8oz) butter
• 4 eggs
• 200g (8oz) self-raising flour
• 2tbs cocoa powder
• Crushed Easter eggs
• ½ tsp vanilla extract
• 2 tbs milk
For the icing and decoration:
• Icing sugar
• Butter
• Melted chocolate
Instructions
1. Mix together all the cake
ingredients.
2. Divide the mixture between
2 buttered cake tins and bake at
180°c. Allow to cool
3. Sandwich the cakes together
with some of the icing and cover
the cake with the rest.
4. Decorate with Easter eggs. You
can use cornflakes covered in
green food colouring for grass.

HUGO’S CINNAMON SNAPS
MAKES 10 snaps / COOK TIME: 12 minutes, plus cooling
Ingredients
For the cinnamon snaps:
• 50g plain flour
• 50g golden syrup
• 50g butter
• 50g demerara
• ½ tsp cinnamon
For the cream:
• 250ml double cream
• 1 tbs maple syrup
• 1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C
2. Melt the butter, sugar and
syrup on a low heat until the
sugar has dissolved. Let the
mixture cool.
3. Mix the cinnamon and flour
together, stir it into the mixture.
4. Roll small balls of mixture in
your hands and place on a lined
baking tray giving them enough
space to spread.
5. Bake for 12 minutes. Meanwhile
grease a wooden spoon handle.
6. When they are ready you need
to act fast. Roll the snaps round
the handle and then slide off to
cool on a wire rack.
7. Pour the cream, syrup and
cinnamon into bowl and whisk
until thick.
8. Now spoon the mixture into
the brandy snaps giving generous
cream portions on the side.

confidence evaporates and they may switch off
school completely.”
Such immaturities in the system occur for
a myriad of reasons. A difficult pregnancy, a
complicated birth, delays in crawling or walking,
speech delay, a history of ear infections, genetics.
Sarah continues, “The good

are currently struggling.

As a long term supporter of
the charity, Kate Spark went to
the extreme for SportsAid earlier
this year. She decided to take
part in an event organised by
IGO Adventures called ‘N60°
- The Norwegian Challenge’ to
help fundraise. IGO’s mission
is to bottle adventure euphoria.
They have created a series of
challenges in the world’s most
spectacular wildernesses to allow
people who are busy with work,
family and life to still feel that
sense of satisfaction, happiness
and fulfilment.
The challenge was seven days
long; three days of training,
acclimatisation and celebration
interpersed by a four day journey
in the snowy wilderness of
Norway on skis and by foot. Kate
completed the 37km a day and
raised £5,000 for SportsAid.
The whole ethos of IGO is
to feel a sense of achievement
for oneself; to push yourself
out of your comfort zone and
experience that euphoric
moment. Kate describes the
experience as “one of the most
memorable weeks of her life!”
SportsAid Week takes place
this year from 24-30 September
2018. It is accessible to everyone
and a fantastic way for schools to
help the future of British sport.

Who or what inspired
you to teach?
At University I joined
a scheme to give exam
tuition to children who
were struggling at their
schools in Cowley:
this was a formative
experience for me.
What sort of
music do you
listen to?
French ballades
- Édith Piaf, Charles
Trenet, Serge Gainsbourg
and Barbara.
Favourite play or
musical?
I should say one of
Christopher Marlowe’s
plays as I am the Head
of King’s, but Ben
Jonson’s Alchemist is my
favourite play.
What is your personal
motto in life?
Know yourself so that
you can give to others.
If you could only bring three
things to a desert island, what
would they be?
The Essays of Michel de
Montaigne, a recording of The
Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart, and a photo
of my wife and three daughters.
If you were invisible for the day
what would you do?
Go back stage during a
production at the Royal
Opera House.
Greatest all time movie?

As a keen calligrapher
I always make sure my
favourite pen is within
arm’s reach.
Your favourite school
moment this year?
It has to be the
achievements of two
pupils (one former,
and one present).
Former pupil Millie
Knight (OKS)
taking to the slopes of
Pyeongchang at the
Winter Paralympic
Games and returning
with three medals.
Watching Francis
Bushell (6A) perform in
the Woodwind Final of
the BBC Young Musician
of the Year. Both are
wonderful examples
of the diverse talents
of King’s pupils.
Favourite food?
I make a rather
tasty tarte tatin
Why, in your
opinion, is your
school best?
The King’s School,
Canterbury has the best
formal and informal
sense of community and
pursuit of excellence in
a renaissance way of any
of the schools I have had
the pleasure of serving.
What three things do you need
to be a successful headmaster?
1. Try to be
omnipresent
2. Accept that you
are not omniscient
3. Be sure to listen
In one sentence,
what is The

ethos?
Our aim is to
anchor a 21st

illustrious history of the oldest
school in the country, dating
from 597AD.
