Experience the work of local artist
and designer Joel Henriques at
Nordia House this summer! Joel
has devoted himself to making the
arts accessible and meaningful,
and has created many original
paintings that celebrate Nordic
aesthetics. This mini-exhibit is just
a teaser for a larger exhibition in
2019!

PICKLED HERRING DINNER

Join us on the lawn for the 3 RD
annual Pickled Herring Dinner. The
smörgåsbord will feature herring in a
variety of tasty sauces, new potatoes
with lots of dill, cucumber salad and,
of course, Swedish meatballs!

WIRE-WRAPPED SILVER &
BEADED NECKLACES
JULY 29, 2:00 - 4:00 PM
All Tickets: $80
Learn the basics of wire-wrapping
using sterling silver and create a
unique, intricate necklace with beads
and a handmade tassel. Featuring
Debra Carus of Elentari Handverk!

Sara Pajunen and Teija Niku are
inspired by their Finnish ancestors.
Today, they explore a common
heritage in Finnish folk music.
Pajunen is a violinist, and Niku an
accordionist; their lithe instrumentals
and beautiful vocal harmonies in both
Finnish and English demonstrate how
gracefully traditional and modern folk
music can speak together. This event is
co-sponsored by Finlandia Foundation
Columbia-Pacific Chapter.

Celebrate high summer at Broder
Söder's crayfish feast. Crack open a
crustacean, raise an aquavit toast and
sing a song like the Swedes do at this
annual Kräftskiva, or Crayfish Party.
A buffet dinner will accompany, plus
Swedish meatballs, salad, knackebrod
& butter, sweets and more!

Local speaker Sig Unander will
present on Simon Benson. A poor
Norwegian immigrant gifted with
immense talent, Benson overcame
daunting challenges to become a
lumber baron who used his vision,
wealth and influence to give back
to his adopted state and country,
leaving a lasting legacy.

beginning of Norse Winter with a
bountiful harvest feast. It's our first
Fall Equinox Harvest Dinner, or
Haustmandur! Produce is at its peak in
September; indulge in fresh fruits and
vegetables, smoked fish, and more.

ANNUAL AUCTION & GALA

Mark your calendar and save the
date for our annual ScanFeast! This
year’s theme for the auction is Trolls,
Tomtar, Tontut, and Nisser, Oh, My!
and it will take place on October 27,
2018 at Nordia House. You never
know what kind of mischief these
little creatures have in store for you,
but we are sure it will keep you
entertained. It will be a time to enjoy
each other’s company, celebrate the
little things in life (Trolls that is), and
support NNW. Donations for the
silent / oral auction are also being
accepted and you are welcome to
drop them off at the office any time
during business hours or 9:00 AM
– 3:00 PM on the weekends. More
information about the lively night will
be coming as we get closer to the
event. •
