Experience the work of local artist<br />

and designer Joel Henriques at<br />

Nordia House this summer! Joel<br />

has devoted himself to making the<br />

arts accessible and meaningful,<br />

and has created many original<br />

paintings that celebrate Nordic<br />

aesthetics. This mini-exhibit is just<br />

a teaser for a larger exhibition in<br />

2019!<br />

PICKLED HERRING DINNER<br />

JULY 27, 6:30 PM<br />

Tickets: $50<br />

Join us on the lawn for the 3 RD<br />

annual Pickled Herring Dinner. The<br />

smörgåsbord will feature herring in a<br />

variety of tasty sauces, new potatoes<br />

with lots of dill, cucumber salad and,<br />

of course, Swedish meatballs!<br />

WIRE-WRAPPED SILVER &<br />

BEADED NECKLACES<br />

JULY 29, 2:00 - 4:00 PM<br />

All Tickets: $80<br />

Learn the basics of wire-wrapping<br />

using sterling silver and create a<br />

unique, intricate necklace with beads<br />

and a handmade tassel. Featuring<br />

Debra Carus of Elentari Handverk!<br />

NNW & FFCPC Members: $20<br />

Non-Members: $25<br />

Sara Pajunen and Teija Niku are<br />

inspired by their Finnish ancestors.<br />

Today, they explore a common<br />

heritage in Finnish folk music.<br />

Pajunen is a violinist, and Niku an<br />

accordionist; their lithe instrumentals<br />

and beautiful vocal harmonies in both<br />

Finnish and English demonstrate how<br />

gracefully traditional and modern folk<br />

music can speak together. This event is<br />

co-sponsored by Finlandia Foundation<br />

Columbia-Pacific Chapter.<br />

Celebrate high summer at Broder<br />

Söder's crayfish feast. Crack open a<br />

crustacean, raise an aquavit toast and<br />

sing a song like the Swedes do at this<br />

annual Kräftskiva, or Crayfish Party.<br />

A buffet dinner will accompany, plus<br />

Swedish meatballs, salad, knackebrod<br />

& butter, sweets and more!<br />

present on Simon Benson. A poor<br />

Norwegian immigrant gifted with<br />

immense talent, Benson overcame<br />

daunting challenges to become a<br />

lumber baron who used his vision,<br />

wealth and influence to give back<br />

to his adopted state and country,<br />

leaving a lasting legacy.<br />

Fall Equinox Harvest Dinner, or<br />

Haustmandur! Produce is at its peak in<br />

September; indulge in fresh fruits and<br />

vegetables, smoked fish, and more.<br />

ANNUAL AUCTION & GALA<br />

OCTOBER 27<br />

Tickets On-Sale September 1<br />

Mark your calendar and save the<br />

date for our annual ScanFeast! This<br />

year’s theme for the auction is Trolls,<br />

Tomtar, Tontut, and Nisser, Oh, My!<br />

and it will take place on October 27,<br />

<strong>2018</strong> at Nordia House. You never<br />

know what kind of mischief these<br />

little creatures have in store for you,<br />

but we are sure it will keep you<br />

entertained. It will be a time to enjoy<br />

each other’s company, celebrate the<br />

little things in life (Trolls that is), and<br />

support NNW. Donations for the<br />

silent / oral auction are also being<br />

accepted and you are welcome to<br />

drop them off at the office any time<br />

during business hours or 9:00 AM<br />

– 3:00 PM on the weekends. More<br />

information about the lively night will<br />

be coming as we get closer to the<br />

event. •<br />
