MEAGAN
UNIVERSITY OF
OKLAHOMA INTERNS
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County is very excited about our
new partnership with the University of Oklahoma School of Social
Work to provide internship opportunities at our Club sites. Meagan
Harden and Mia Kennedy are our first two interns who are working
alongside Club staff and our Club members during the summer.
Both Masters of Social Work students, Meagan and Mia bring lots of
expertise, energy and compassion! Meagan’s undergraduate degree
is in Environmental Sustainability, and Mia’s is in Human and Family
Services. Both chose completing their practicum experiences at the
Boys & Girls Clubs because they love kids and know the difference
the right support systems can make in the life of a child. Welcome
Meagan and Mia!
MS. JANE GOES
TO WASHINGTON
While our President/CEO Jane Sutter was in Washington D.C.
representing the state as Oklahoma Mother of the Year at the
American Mother’s Inc. awards, she was able to also testify to the
House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human
Tom Cole. Jane spoke about the importance of 21st Century
Community Learning Centers availble through the Department of
Education.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County’s partnership with
Santa Fe South (SFS) Elementary School in south Oklahoma City
was started with 21st Century funding. We now have three clubs
in schools and have doubled the number of youth we are able to
serve through those partnerships.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County is raisng local money
to keep the program going as we complete the fifth and last year
of the 21st Century grant. Pictured are Sage Learn, Government
to September. Hop on board and join us Friday, September 14th for another fun evening
RICK NAGEL
SCHOLARSHIP FUND
From humble beginnings and being a Club member himself, Rick
Nagel knows the challenges that many of our teens face when
preparing life after high school graduation. As a member of the
Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County’s Board of Directors, as
well as the national BGCA council, Rick has played a pivotal role
in shaping our programs for maximum success and motivating
and inspiring our Club Members to reach their full potential.
Thanks to Rick’s ongoing support and dedication, we are thrilled
to announce the newly established Rick Nagel Scholarship Fund,
housed at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation.
Rick shared the exciting news with our teens earlier this year
and it generated interest among both our middle school and
high school Club Members. The Rick Nagel Scholarship Fund will
benefit current members and alumni of the Boys & Girls Clubs of
Oklahoma County who are seeking post secondary education. The
three scholarship winners announced at the March Champions
of Youth Celebration are Caleb Price, Madison Clayton and Tyler
Michael. The scholarship gives priority to students majoring in a
science, technology, engineering or math subject in college. We
are so grateful to have Rick as part of the Boys & Girls Clubs
family and cannot wait to see the lives that are transformed
through this opportunity!
$6.9
$900,000
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County has
announced the public phase of its Great Futures Campaign
to serve more youth, more often, with greater impact. The
Campaign centers around adding a Teen Center space for high
school students at the Memorial Park Boys & Girls Club, 3535
N. Western, sustaining the Club programs in three elementary
schools, enhanced programing at all four Club sites, and
broadening the footprint by adding a fifth Club site.
Campaign Co-Chairs Gene Rainbolt and Mark McCubbin have
announced that the campaign has reached 88% of its $7.8
million goal thanks to 100% of board giving and other generous
lead gifts from individuals and foundations. Initial gifts for the
Great Futures Campaign were made in memory of Aubrey K.
McClendon in recognition of his support of the Boys & Girls
Clubs and many other important causes in the community.
In announcing the public phase of the campaign, the cabinet
wants to encourage broad ranging community support.
