organization. From fostering a collegial
style of leadership to installing a sustainable
system of governance to enhancing
members’ skills and creating strong links to its
alumni corps, UP Tau Gamma Phi demonstrates
its desire to remain true to its vision of excellence.
For the first 30 years or so, the focus of the
fraternity has been limited to its campus residents.
Many resident-led projects had been conducted, but
much of our activities revolved around the university.
As the number of the alumni started to grow, however,
a sense of maturity began to set in and a welcome
transformation occurred.
The establishment of the alumni association
17 years ago contributed largely to the aforementioned
transformation. It ushered in a new era of renewed
involvement in fraternity affairs among the alumni, many
of whom have met great success in their own careers
and professional life. Ready and willing to contribute
their talents, time, and resources, they introduced the
fraternity to a new phase in its existence—this time
outside the campus.
Formerly the UP Tau Gamma Phi Alumni, Inc. (UP
TGPAI), the UP Triskelions Alumni, Inc. (UPTA) gave
birth to the successful unification of all Triskelion units
within the UP System. Guided by the dictum “One
UP, One Triskelion,” it brought together Diliman, Los
Baños, Baguio, Clark (San Fernando), and Tacloban
units into one solid aggrupation. For the benefit of its
residents, UPTA institutionalized the “GT Summit,” a ye
arly leadership training conference for its key leaders
and officers in the campus. It likewise established
If you want
to go fast,
go alone.
If you want
to go far,
go together.
(African Proverb)
“Triskelion
Cares,” a program which aims to extend both financial
and in-kind assistance to selected institutions and
individuals in fulfillment of our objective to be of service
to others.
Commendable as they are, most of these initiatives
need to be complemented by other measures to
further prepare the fraternity for the years to come.
Concerns on areas such as selection and recruitment,
image-building, and resident welfare are but a few
that need to be seriously addressed. Efforts are now
underway to tackle such issues with the help of the
alumni association and key leaders who have graciously
offered their assistance.
As we celebrate our Golden Year, we should
look forward to a new era of Triskelion brotherhood,
one that is more progressive in outlook and ready to
adapt to new ways of doing things. Hopefully, with all
of us joining hands, we can provide our new crop of
Triskelions a more positive, life-changing experience.
Happy 50 th Anniversary to all the brothers and
sisters!
