A "slightly used" panel truck was pressed into service, bought fromAT&T<br />
and sent down to a New Rochelle body shop for refurbishment, its<br />
progress duly noted in <strong>The</strong> <strong>North</strong> <strong>Castle</strong> Sun, the township's newspaper<br />
<strong>of</strong> the time. an archived article dated October 30, 1946 that detailed the<br />
bookn~obile colmittee's dedication and plans, the newspaper chronicled<br />
the entire operation, giving credit to the efforts <strong>of</strong> those whose vision was<br />
unwavering.<br />

LOCAL PATRONS FILL THEIR ARMS WITH TREASURES<br />
"Miss Julia Bennett has worked unceasingly cataloguing and preparing<br />
for circulation donated boolis as they have arrived d~lring the past few<br />
months," the paper noted. "She has also done the preliminary mapping <strong>of</strong><br />
routes and, with Mrs. John EIill and Mrs. I-Tall, is now figuring out final<br />
details such as truck stops and safe hum arounds."<br />
Mrs. R. Leslie Hickson was in charge <strong>of</strong> buying adult books for the<br />
"converted truck", the newspaper reported, detailing her search at Inany<br />
New York book sales seeking out new adult books for the Book~nobile<br />
shelves. Mrs. Hall ordered the juvenile titles, some 80 in all. Book~nobile<br />
cormnitlee members Mr. R. Eugene Curly and Mr. Carroll M. Snyder,<br />
were responsible for conversion specifications and the purchase <strong>of</strong><br />
shelving for the interior <strong>of</strong> the tn~ck.<br />
<strong>The</strong> librarians on the routes were also selected to work together as a book<br />
pmchasing committee under MIS. Hickson's chairmanship.
