MD's Message Dear Colleagues, Some me ago, I was scanning the web for some informa on when I came across a very interes ng piece tled “Unsung” which featured people from different parts of India who chose to be selfless and decided to make a difference to society in their own way. The stories were so engaging that I ended up reading most of them. And that's when I thought of Tulasi Munda who is a noted social ac vist from Odisha and was awarded Padma Shri in 2001. She has done a lot of work to spread literacy among the tribal people. She would o en say “If you really want to make a difference in society, you have to be selfless” I agree with her because, the society that we live in gives us a lot and it is our duty to give some of it back. Only when we work selflessly towards bringing about a change, we can achieve something. Today corporate social responsibility (CSR) is strategic for an organiza on's sustainability, but what about ISR i.e. “Individual Social Responsibility”. We as individuals have a certain responsibility towards bringing about a posi ve change in our society. Maybe some me when you can, you should visit www.unsung.in which is a tribute to ordinary Indian ci zens who have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of people around them . Their inner resources – vision, will, commitment, energy – compensate for their lack of financial resources. They operate in the shadows, far from the glitz of fame and fortune. Their stories are inspira onal. They teach us how we can beat all odds if we harness and channel ourselves. When individual social responsibility becomes a way of life the results will start showing. When we actually want to make a sustainable difference by teaching school children or walking to work for the benefit of the environment, the results will be evident. It is then that we will realize that we can contribute in many ways with the different skill sets we have and help those who are less privileged. Like they say, “every drop counts”. As individuals, crea ng a healthier and happier society should be our mission. Respect for our environment and society is integral to our value system the same should be exhibited by every GHCLite. I would appreciate if you all can share your sugges ons and ideas towards the concept of the ISR. Where would you like to volunteer and the various ac vi es that are directed towards fostering change.
