Over the years, the Village of Wilmette has been recognized for its achievement in the areas of budgeting, forestry, public safety, engineering, community<br />
development and air quality. Below are the recognitions received by the Village.<br />

The Government Finance Officers Association has awarded Wilmette the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the last eight consecutive years<br />
and the Certificate of Achievement for its excellence in financial reporting for the last three years. These awards reflect the commitment of the Village<br />
Board and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting.<br />

For its last bond issue, the Village received the highest credit rating, “AAA”, from Moody’s Investors Service. The AAA rating allows Wilmette to take<br />
advantage of the lowest possible interest rates in municipal markets, saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.<br />

For its commitment to the care and management of the Village’s trees, Wilmette has received numerous awards and recognitions from the National<br />
Arbor Day Foundation including Tree City USA recognition for 32 consecutive years and 15 Tree City USA Growth Awards.<br />

Few communities have nationally accredited police and fire departments. Wilmette, however, has achieved this prestigious status. The Wilmette Police<br />
and Fire Departments received initial national accreditation in 1986 and 2001, respectively. They have received re-accreditation honors several times<br />
since then. National accreditation means the residents of Wilmette are being served by departments that are committed to the highest quality public<br />
safety services.<br />

The Police Department received a Community Policing Award from the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and the Regional Institute for Community<br />
Policing for adopting and implementing community policing by forming partnerships with community groups in an effort to resolve problems.<br />

The Sheridan Road Reconstruction project was recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois for their engineering<br />
achievement.<br />

The Community Development Department’s “Permit Handbook: Building Permits Made Easy”, was one of four finalists for the Municipal Development<br />
Control Award. The award is provided by the Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development to a suburban unit of government demonstrating<br />
excellence in sign control, design review, zoning, subdivision regulation, and the development approval process.<br />
