NATIONAL TAIWAN MUSEUM<br />

Established in 1908, the museum is the oldest<br />

in Taiwan. The National Taiwan Museum<br />

places a strong emphasis on education and<br />

research, particularly on the culture of ancient<br />

Taiwanese and the Han Chinese. At the<br />

museum, visitors can admire Taiwan's largest<br />

anthropology collection and learn about diverse<br />

subjects such as zoology, botany, anthropology<br />

and earth sciences. The museum's design,<br />

which feature vaulted ceiling and finely carved<br />

pillars at the entrance, resembles magnificent<br />

European-style cathedrals.<br />

Visitors can get to the National Taiwan<br />

Museum by metro, and it is accessible within<br />

walking distance just northwest of the National<br />

Taiwan University Hospital Station.<br />

TAIPEI FINE ARTS MUSEUM<br />

Over the past 30 years, the Taipei Fine Arts<br />

Museum has been recognized for its creativity<br />

and innovation in the field of research. Here,<br />

visitors can enjoy traditional Taiwanese<br />

artworks, and other forms of art such as films<br />

and installation arts, and admire the works of<br />

Taiwanese and international artists from the<br />

19 th century to the present day. The museum<br />

regularly hosts different exhibits in the most<br />

innovative ways for maximum impact.<br />

At the museum, visitors can also join the Art<br />

Talk forum for discussions on artists and art<br />

schools currently featured at the museum, or<br />

learn new art techniques at the art studio.<br />

Visitors can reach the museum by bus (get off<br />

at the Taipei Art Museum) or metro (get off at<br />

Yuan Shan).<br />

Opening Hours: The museum is currently<br />

closed. It is expected to reopen in the summer<br />

CHIMEI MUSEUM<br />

Considered by Forbes Magazine as "one of<br />

the most surprising art collections", Chimei<br />

Museum is a must-visit spot for those who<br />

are interested in the studies of fine arts and<br />

Western Art. The Chimei Museum is an ideal<br />

stopover in Asia without having to travel all the<br />

way to distant Europe.<br />

Located within the Tainan Metropolitan<br />

Park, the Chimei Museum is a magnificent<br />

Greek-style building featuring four galleries<br />

that include paintings, European sculptures,<br />

musical instruments, arms, and natural history.<br />

The museum also houses one of the largest<br />

collections of violins in the world.<br />

NATIONAL MUSEUM OF MARINE<br />

BIOLOGY AND AQUARIUM<br />

The National Museum of Marine Biology and<br />

Aquarium was established in 1991, and is<br />

the first and largest marine biology museum<br />

in Taiwan. Located on the southern tip of<br />

Taiwan, the museum covers an area of 97<br />

hectares with the main building spanning over<br />

an area of 36 hectares, aweing visitors with its<br />

incredible size.<br />

The museum consists of three main exhibitions:<br />

Waters of Taiwan, Coral Kingdom, and Waters<br />

of the World. Visitors can explore all from<br />

the water systems of Taiwan, to the aquatic<br />

animals native to Taiwan indigenous to rivers<br />

as well as the open sea, to different coral reef<br />

habitats. The musem also houses an 81 m<br />

underwater moving track, giving visitors an<br />

insightful look into the marine biology in many<br />

parts of the globe.<br />

From the city of Kaohsiung and the center<br />

of Pingtung County, visitors can get to the<br />

museum by bus, metro, or bullet train.<br />

NATIONAL 228 MEMORIAL MUSEUM<br />

The museum was established to remember<br />

the victims of the February 28 Incident of<br />

1947, which resulted in the death of tens<br />

of thousands people. This is a dark period<br />

in Taiwan's history, and lots of evidence has<br />

not yet been clarified. Using the same display<br />

method as the Berlin Jewish Museum, the<br />

National 228 Memorial Museum includes<br />

images of victims arranged in a timeline to<br />

describe what happened during the period.<br />

The museum building was formerly the<br />

Taipei Radio Station, which the KMT used for<br />

propaganda and handling events at the time of<br />

the incident.<br />
