When Dorothy Gooding, 83,
saw Ryman Healthcare’s rst
retirement village, Woodcote,
she knew it was the perfect
place for her.
“The moment we came here,
we got out of the car and we
hadn’t even seen anything but
the car park and my daughter
said; ‘Oh Mum isn’t this nice!’”
“There was just that
feeling that this is it!”
Dorothy laughs.
Dorothy moved from
Alexandra to Christchurch
after her husband passed away
and moved into the village in
November 2016.
“When my husband died, I
had no family left down there
and I have two daughters
in Christchurch and a son
in Rangiora. So, it was the
obvious place to come.”
Dorothy and her daughters
investigated quite a few
retirement homes and villages
and she had put her name
down for two other places but
in the end decided to hold out
for Woodcote.
“I had my name down for
a couple of other places, but
after a few weeks I said to
my daughter that I didn’t
want to go anywhere else but
Woodcote. So, I waited for a
place to open up.”

“I found that the other
villages we looked at,

her family.
“It’s perfect for me as my
daughters live in Wigram and
it’s near Hornby mall.”

my name down on the list!”
Dorothy grins.

“I don’t knit but I natter!”
she laughs.
