lenge Competition 2005), which is one of the applications
realized using the Personal Reader Framework developed by
L3S. Other published applications, developed at L3S are a Personalized
eLearning Reader for working with online eLearning
material, a Recommender and Syndication system for selecting
and listening to Music Streams, aka MyEar. Together with
the University of Torino, L3S developed a Curriculum Planner
System for the creation and validation of University Course
Curriculum Sequences, using the Hannover University course
database as information source. For creating metadata-rich
content, the working group A3 is also dealing with the automatic
extraction and aggregation of content from various
sources, e.g. the crawling of plain, but structured, web-pages
such as publication pages or a online course list, to create a
semantically rich and sound description of the content for use
with the personalized information systems.
L3S also participates in the working group I2 (policy specifi cation,
enforcement and integration), in which the Protune language,
an advanced Semantic Web policy language, has been
developed. Current achievements include the development of
an engine able to perform policy-driven negotiations and the
generation of natural language explanations from the result of
such negotiations. Current work focuses on the formulation of
policies based on natural language specifi cations, in order to
help users creating and understanding policies.
