to ascribe it to God, as if it were through his means <strong>the</strong>y were happy, but to believe that it was <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

own courage which procured that happ<strong>in</strong>ess. He also gradually changed <strong>the</strong> government <strong>in</strong>to tyranny,<br />

see<strong>in</strong>g no o<strong>the</strong>r way of turn<strong>in</strong>g men from <strong>the</strong> fear of God, but to br<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m <strong>in</strong>to a constant dependence<br />

on his power. He also said he would be revenged on God, if he should have a m<strong>in</strong>d to drown <strong>the</strong> world<br />

aga<strong>in</strong>; for that he would build a tower too high for <strong>the</strong> waters to reach. And that he would avenge<br />

himself on God for destroy<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir forefa<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

Nimrod’s name means rebel. Apparently his rebellion was aga<strong>in</strong>st YHVH for he believed that YHVH<br />

killed his forefa<strong>the</strong>rs <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> flood. Therefore, Nimrod refused adherence to, and opposed by force,<br />

God’s righteous govern<strong>in</strong>g authority. So defiant of God was Nimrod that he built <strong>the</strong> city Babel and <strong>the</strong><br />

great Tower of Babel. From this we see <strong>the</strong> pattern of secular humanism and <strong>the</strong> result<strong>in</strong>g tyranny of a<br />

dictatorial government.<br />
