CHAPTER SEVEN<br />

NIMROD<br />

Nimrod was <strong>the</strong> son of Cush, <strong>the</strong> grandson of Ham, and <strong>the</strong> great grandson of Noah began to be a<br />

giant upon <strong>the</strong> earth. Cush is aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> name of <strong>the</strong> region<br />

Sudan and Ethiopia of today. Apparently Nimrod ruled<br />

<strong>the</strong>se regions. He was not a giant, but he was a giant<br />

hunter; <strong>the</strong>refore <strong>the</strong>y say, As Nimrod <strong>the</strong> giant hunter<br />

before <strong>the</strong> Lord. - Genesis 10:8,9 (LXX)<br />

"The first among <strong>the</strong> leaders of <strong>the</strong> corrupt men was<br />

Nimrod. His fa<strong>the</strong>r Cush had married his mo<strong>the</strong>r at an<br />

advanced age, and Nimrod, <strong>the</strong> offspr<strong>in</strong>g of this belated<br />

union, was particularly dear to him as <strong>the</strong> son of his old<br />

age. He gave him <strong>the</strong> clo<strong>the</strong>s made of sk<strong>in</strong>s with which<br />

God had furnished Adam and Eve at <strong>the</strong> time of <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

leav<strong>in</strong>g Paradise. Cush himself had ga<strong>in</strong>ed possession of<br />

<strong>the</strong>m through Ham. From Adam and Eve <strong>the</strong>y had<br />

descended to Enoch, and from him to Methuselah, and to<br />

Noah, and <strong>the</strong> last had taken <strong>the</strong>m with him <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> ark.<br />

When <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>mates of <strong>the</strong> ark were about to leave <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

refuge, Ham stole <strong>the</strong> garments and kept <strong>the</strong>m concealed,<br />

f<strong>in</strong>ally pass<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m on to his first-born son Cush. Cush <strong>in</strong><br />

turn hid <strong>the</strong>m for many years. When his son Nimrod<br />

reached his twentieth year, he gave <strong>the</strong>m to him.<br />
