5-28 May <strong>2018</strong><br />

This May the Artists Open Houses festival is bigger and<br />

better than ever – with 200 artists’ homes and studios<br />

opening their doors to exhibit work from over 1,000 artists<br />

and makers in Brighton, Hove and beyond. Plan your visit<br />

around the 13 individual trails listed in the <strong>AOH</strong> brochure, or take<br />

your pick from the wealth on offer. The Open Houses stretch from<br />

Portslade to Kemptown and out to Rottingdean, Newhaven and<br />

the South Downs village of Ditchling.<br />

Visiting Open Houses offers the chance meet the artists and<br />

to buy work directly from them. The hugely diverse range of<br />

artwork on show includes original paintings, prints, graffiti arts,<br />

ceramics and textiles, as well as photography, sculpture, crafts,<br />

jewellery and many other media.<br />

The Artists Open Houses is an inclusive open-to-all event,<br />

welcoming participation from all areas of the community,<br />

including community groups, those otherwise excluded from the<br />

art world mainstream, school and college student artists.<br />

Entry to the houses is free and many Open Houses also offer the<br />

opportunity to get involved, providing workshops and events for<br />

both adults and children. With homemade tea and cake on offer<br />

too, the Artists Open Houses are a very special weekend treat.<br />

Opening times<br />

Most Open Houses are open May weekends from 11.00-17.00,<br />

but opening times may vary from venue, to so it is best to check<br />

individual brochure listings. Some venues are also open on<br />

weekdays and many open for both May Bank Holiday Mondays.<br />

Vote For Your Favourite Open House<br />

The Best Open House Award, sponsored by Latest Homes and<br />

LatestTV, offers you the opportunity to vote online for your<br />

favourite Open House. From the start of the festival simply visit<br />

the <strong>AOH</strong> website: www.aoh.org.uk and follow the links to place<br />

your vote for the house that you believe best captures the spirit of<br />

the Artists Open Houses.<br />

The houses shortlisted by public vote will go through to the final<br />

to be visited by the Latest team for selection for the Award.<br />

Many Open Houses offer you the chance to explore your creative<br />

side through hands on workshops and other events.<br />

Why Not Take Part?<br />

If you live in the Brighton and Hove area, you can open your house<br />

to take part in the Artists Open Houses festival.<br />
